Clarke Mr. Bair, Mr. Spires, Mr. Peehler S S.B.C. — Austin Fisher C.E.C. — all members Renovation of B.S. — Summer 1963, kitchen and perhaps some other general area can be renonovated, but instructional area must be kept intact to be used in 1963-4 year. Summer 1964 and continuing until winter or spring 1964, the remaining space must be renovated. 300 to 600 seats must be vacated so taiat this can be done with a minimum of disturbance to the children while they are in school. Having only 300 seats to spare would mean that the contractor could work less efficiently Snd that classes would have to be shifted continually Evora room to room as the work progresses. Therefore the School Committee strongly recommends building addition for 1500, freeing 600 seats for renovation work, and delaying construction of elementary school until 1966. Moving 8th graders into H.S, to use excess space is muga less undesirable than adding to confusion in U.S. , the four most critical years. They mention again the desirability of studying Esterbrook and Franklin schools for another year before making decisions about next elementary school. Cost of Renovating H.S. Maximum figure would he 6300,000, of which $15,000 might be needed far first part, $225,000 for remainder.
