The Minutes of 10/ 14/92 were approved
Diversity Training
Steve had contacted Bill Johnston of the Boston Police Department
Community Disorders Unit to explore with him the possibility of
doing diversity training for the Police Department He was
prepared to do so and emphasized that this be done jointly with
the Fair Housing Committee so that partnership would be Rick
White was in agreement three training sessions would be done to
accommodate different shifts
Bob suggested that there be diversity in representation beyond
the members of the Fair Housing Committee including Cheryl
Prescott of METCO Tina Gaw to represent the Asian community and
a disabled person
Gerri and Steve will take the lead in planning the training
Florence suggested that the Fire Department be considered for
future training
Fair Housing and Human Relations Committee Charge
Gerri Weathers distributed the draft of a Charge which she had
prepared for a "Fair Housing and Human Relations Committee" It
was suggested that an educational component be added to the Fair
Housing section of the Charge and that the Committee have "not
more than 11 members"
Steve will send copies of the Charge to Norm Cohen and Jacquie
Smith for review
Steve will ask Norm Cohen to provide advice on grievance
procedures
Possible activities of a Fair Housing/Human Relations Committee
include cultural film festival (e g , documentary on
African/American film festival ) ; diversity series in the Minute-
man ; bringing together Fair Housing/Human Relations Committees in
nearby towns ; creating alliances with other communities ;
promoting a human relations day; school participation; vigils in
response to incidents as they arise involvement of Chamber of
Commerce (Steve to invite Jan Spielman, Executive Director of the

Chamber of Commerce, to come to a meeting of the Committee after
the first of the year
Committee membership
Gerri reported that Kevin Swan was not interested in joining the
Committee Charles Crayton lives out of Town
Long Range Plan
It was decided to update the Town' s long-range plan with respect
to housing developments Members of the Committee will try to
attend the November 30th Selectmen' s meeting to hear the Report
of the Metropolitan State Hospital Land Task Force
Social Studies Curriculum
Nichole reported on a meeting she had attended of the Social
Studies Curriculum Committee It was agreed to invite the new
Superintendent for a meeting in the New Year
Housing Forms
Gerri has been getting calls from members of linguistic
minorities relating problems of Spanish-speaking ( two) and Asian
(one) citizens in reading the English on housing application
forms
