The Minutes of 5/ 13/32 were approved
Hate Crimes
Hate crimes ' incidents involving Lexington police officers were
discussed See attached Minute-man article
Judith McCloskey
Mrs McCloskey said that she has served on the METCO Advisory
Committee for the past three years She became concerned that
the Los Angeles riots were not being discussed in any significant
way in the community
After seeking to promote such a discussion through the Lexington
Clergy Association with no success , she approached John Papadonis
in the School Department He was very receptive Mrs McCloskey
mentioned that the School Committee was very supportive in
promoting diversity and in addition to METCO there was a
cultural diversity committee
Mrs McCloskey showed a videotape entitled "A Dream on Fire"
( Nickleodeon channel ) which was seen by the students at Estabrook
School The video is sof a discussion by Los Angeles school
children of the Los Angeles riot a week after the riot took
place The students affirmed the need for tolerance and
diversity
Affirmative Action Manual
Bill Spencer reported that the School Department was nearing
completion of an Affirmative Action Manual Bill mentioned that
while affirmative reporting is mandatory for municipal employees
it is not required for school employees

Soft Second Loan Program for First-Time Homebuyers
Peter Brown mentioned a new "soft yecond" loan program for first-
time homebuyers which has potential for affordable housing in
Lexington Laura Dorfman, a Vice President at Lexington Savings
Bank is the contact person for this program
