The Minutes of 3/ 11 /92 were approved
Protection of the Disabled
A Fair Housing Article calling for the extension of fair housing
protection to the disabled (amendment of Fair Housing resolution
of 1983) was passed in Town Meeting on March 23 Steve informed
the Committee of plans for an educational forum and Discovery Day
display relating to the Americans with Disabilities Act
Hate Crimes
Gerri and Steve reported on a public forum entitled Embracing
Difference, An Alternative to Hate Crime which they attended in
Arlington on March 13 An officer from the Lexington Police
Department also attended
Mary and Gerri presented their considerations on how the Town
might respond to hate actions There was some discussion of how
the Selectmen might respond or the Fair Housing Committee A
response from many different directions--Fair Housing Committee,
Selectmen, clergy, letter to the Minuteman--was proposed Mary
and Gerri will report back to the Committee after they have done
more work
Since the Police had lately been affected in an incident, it was
agreed that Gerri would extend an invitation to the Chief The
Committee has in the past met with victims of hate crimes or hate
incidents
Brochure for Potential Lexington Residents
Details of brochure for potential Lexington residents was
discussed
Bank Consortium
Peter Brown reported that the process which had been planned to
involve a consortium of banks in assisting with affordable
(, housing financing was temporarily on hold due to a great deal of
activity lately around mortgage refinancing
