Discussion
JVH: issues of safety on bikeway are most important. Gra Guttag has program at school,now encmpassing both bicyclists
and inline skaters.
GW Could a group of monitors be recruited to help sugest proper safety.
JF: Police were handing out tickets(for free snacks fret local stores)for good actions,as positive:enforcement of safety.

2.Evaluation of Inventory Form Variables
BG prepared draft of inventory form.It has Checklist isms with columns for identification and rins for check on appropriate
columns and adding description,key by number,and decription of significant object or conditioi. -he column heads are
indicated below.Use:place key on strip map to locate crresponding description.
Natural features:
• Wetlands
• Meadow
• Streams/brooks
• Woodland
• Ledge outcrop
• Unusual vegetation
• +Shrubs/understory
• Other

Manmade Features:
• Stone walls/barriers
• Fencing--height,type,condition
• Guard rails
• Bikepath signs
• Buildings w/in viewshed
• Access points to neighborhood path,to conservation/recreation lands
• Parking:private or public[HB should we assess whether private owners permit use and when?]
• Points of interest
• Furniture(benches,bikeracks or other locking spots)
Problems:
• Invasive species control(Norway maple,Japanese knotweed,loostrife,poison ivy,bittersweet, bush honeysuckle)
• Vandalism--graffiti
• Dumping
• Path surface degradation
• Erosion of embankments
• Roots

Need to add identification:
• map numbers on which keys are recorded,
• date,
• team members,
• weather conditions
3.Discussion of Mapping Information Using Form with Maps
NW Some will need a crash course on plants for those doing survey.
GW- Propose we field-test with a trial section,with two different groups assessing the same area.
BG: Identify a wetland,with dominant species therein.
NW Identification of growths of unknowns as for example multiple-stem less than 15 ft. (such as sumac).
JF: Is this part of vegetation?
JIB:Need map references:Plot numbers on map corresponding to items.
HB: We should identify unique vegetation in the understory.
JVH: The granite mile markers serve as coarse references.Include them on maps.
BG: Construction maps for bikeway have 100-foot station numbers.These are currently printed 2 strips per large sheet. Use
rolling distance odometer to reestablish stations. Put those station marker numbers on the bikeway
PD: We need to note adjacent conservation lands.
4.Plan for Pilot Inventory
Arlington line to Adams school,about 0.5 mile.Meet at Mal's parking lot near town line.

BG:Will revise the inventory form and get field map of that section ready for use then.
