Greeley stated that he wished to go on record as
opposed to any further proceeding in connection
with the erection of the swimming pool before
seeing a general plan of the layout, and he would
therefor oppose the location of the swimming
pool until after it has been placed hp6n a plan,
inasmuch as he felt it was unwise and unintelligent
to proceed without a plan.
The Board informed him that they would see
that he got a plan.
U. S. Veterans ' The Town Counsel discussed the matter of the
Hospital. telegram that was received from Washington as
follows :
"Comptroller General has informally advised
that proposal of Town of Lexington for water
service for U. S. Veterans Hospital, Bedford,
Massachusetts may be accepted subject to review
and confirmation of rates and probable modification
of provision covering adjustment of rates
following increased use by other consumers and the
installation of the eight inch water main in the
Tpwn of Bedford. Request your Town Meeting
consider this matter with view of delegating
necessary authority to such individual or
individuals as you may desire to complete
details of final agreement.
Hines Director. "
Discussion arose as to whether the Board
shouldask the Veterans Bureau to send a representative
to Lexington with full authority to act on the matter
of arranging and signing contract for supplying
water to the Veterans Hospital.
It was finally decided that the Town Counsel
should write a letter to the Veterans Bureau in
answer to their telegram informing them that
their telegram arrived too late for action at the
4. t
Town Meeting, June 18, 1929 as it arrived
Wednesday, June 19, 1929 , and also that Mr.
Custance should communicate with the Selectmen of

The Clerk was authorized , therefore, to employ an
additional clerk for this period of time , if the

Mr. Custance reported that } e had taken up with
Mr. Waddell 's office, Director of Accounts , the subject
of traffic signals and he found that the Act which Mr.
Briggs and Mr. Wrightington referredto did not in any
way affect the installation of traffic signals by the
Town unless they intend to arrange a contract for rental
of the signals. He stated that the Chapter which was in
reference to the Traffic Signals was Chapter 357 of the Traffic
Acts of 1928, andunder that Chapter the Town had only Signals.
to secure the approval of the State of the signals and
locations installed. He , therefore, communicated with
the State House and Mr. Taylor came to Lexington
and together with Mr. Bills they reviewed the intended
locations of the traffic signals, and he stated
Mr. Taylor was in accord with the locations. Mr.
Custance recommended the use of the traffic signal
installed by Mr. Bills , namely the Tokeim signal.
It was therefore decided to install two traffic
signals at Clarke St. , & Massachusetts Avenue, and
one at Elm Avenue at this time.
It was voted to request Mr. Bills to submit a
