SELECTMEN'S MEETING - JUNE 11, 1929.
The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen
was held at the Selectmen's Room, Town Office
Building on June 11, 1929 at 7:30 P.M. Messrs.
Burnham, Custance , Chamberlain, Shannon and Blake
were present. The Supt. of Public Works and the
Clerk were also present .
Hearing was declared open at 8 P.M. upon the
application of Utrthi r E. Locke of 62 Farmcrest
Avenue for permission-to build a private garage
on his premises. Mr. Locke did not appear at the
hearing. Mr. Thomas J. Doherty, however,
Locke 's appeared and registered his objection to the
garage location of the garage .
application. He statedthat he felt it should be set
back at least 20' from the line where Mr. Locke
intended to place the garage. He stated that the
reason the garage was placed where it is, is that
it is necessary to fill the rear land. He
felt , however, that the placing of the garage in
the location intended was a detriment to his
property; that is the reason he was objecting.
The Board felt that if Mr. Locke placed his
garage back further it would also be a benefit
to his own nroperty and therfore voted to grant
Mr. Locke a permit for his garage provided he
set it back 20' from the line designated on the
plan he filed with his application.
Mrs. Anna Goloboy, her daughter and counsel
Anna Goloboy, came before the Board to ask what Mrs . Goloboy
milk business . would have to do to fix up her premises so that
she could sell milk.
The Board informed them that they would ask
the Milk Inspector to visit their premises and
give a notice in writing as to what was necessary
to be done.
It was voted to authorize the Supt. of Public
Sewer Con- Works to start construction of sewers on Charles

Letter was received from the Board of Health
of the Town of Belmont in which they advised that
an order hadbeen passed restraining dogs in the
TOM of Belmont. It appears from the Police
records that a dog owned by J A. Feirce on
Merrett Road bad bitten Mrs. feirces ' servant and
Restraining then got away and went pinto Belmont and had

The Board considered the matter of restraining
dogs in Lexington and decided 1-o pass an order

Letter was received from Frederick L. Emery,
Chairman of the Planning Board, in which was
incorporated the suggestion that before doing any Letter from

receipt of the letter.

Letter was received from the Missess Frances &
Sarah Robinson, 9 Stratham Road, in which they
thanked the Board for fixing the drain in Massachusetts

Opinion of the Town Counsel was received in
regard to the rules and regulations for acceptance
of Town ways. The opinion was more particularly
in regard to the meaning of the phrase "owners add

felt this meant 75% of the properties and not 75%
of the owners.

It was decided to ask the opinion of the Town
Counsel as to whether the regulations should be

Mr. Custance reported that he had a conference
with Miss Ellen M. Tower and Miss Tower informed
him that she would be willing to give a piece of

Massachusetts Avenue , to widen out the curve

Highway Department.
Applications of surfacing material, after the
surface had been patched, smoothed and rolled,
have been made on Lincoln Street-entire length,
Spring Street-entire length, Hastings Road, Shade
Street, Grant Street, and Sherman Street. Waltham

Street surface from Concord Avenue to Allen Street
has been treated with Bermudez Asphalt covered with
pea stone and rolled.
The surfaces of Waltham Street and Woburn Street
have been patched.
Next week the department will be occupied
with the regular maintenance.
It is also intended to start the construction
work on Mass. Ave. and Bedford Street between
Waltham Street and Elm Avenue.
Moth and Shade Tree Dept.
The department has been engaged in the work
of spraying the public trees and will be occupied
with this and other maintenance work next week.
Park Department.
Drain from the location of the proposed
swimming pool to Vine Brook has been completed.
Regular maintenance work was carried on and will
occupy the department next week.
Water Maintenance.
Supt. of Public
Water services have been installed for the Works report.

Water Construction.
Unloaded three carloads of 8" water pipe, one
carload of 10" pipe.
Sewer Maintenance.
Sewer services have been installed for the
following persons : Robbins & Smith, Smith Avenue;
O 'Connor & Quinn, Highland Avenue.
Sewer Construction.
Approximately 600' of 8" sewer pipe have
been laid in Waltham Street.
The work contemplated for the week ending
June 22nd is as follows Waltham Street sewer;
and water and sewer services.
Engineering Department.
Highways.
Curb lines and grades established at the
following places: Clarke Street at Library;

fronting Hayes Fountain; Mass. Avenue near
Maple Street, Mass. Avenue between Curve Street
and Pleasant Street.
Sewers.
Lines and grades for sewer at Waltham Street.
Miscellaneous.
Relocated connectingroad between Adams Street
and East Street and Ledgelawn Avenue in the Dix
Development.
Granolithic grades on Bedford Street and Parker
Street.
Playground drain grades.
