SPECIAL MEETING, JUNE 6, 1929.
A special meeting of the Board of Selectmen
was held in the Selectmen's Room, Thursday evening,
June 6, 1929. Messrs. Burnham, Custanee, Blake .
and Shannon were present. The Supt. of Public Works
and the Supt. of Water & Sewer Department were
also present.
L. W. Bills came before the Board to

Traffic The placing of Stop & Go automatic signals
Signals. at Waltham Street and Massachusetts Avenue`, Mass-
achusetts Avenue and Clarke Street, Bedford.
Street and Elm Avenue, Marrett Road. and Waltham
Street, and 'Noburn Street and Lowell Street was
talked over, and it was decided to place an
article in the warrant for a Town Meeting to
ask the Town to appropriate money for this purpose.,
$4000.00.
The subject of supplying the U. S. Veteransl
Hospital at Bedford with water was discussed. and
Veterans -1 figures of cost were presented. VOTED: That the
Hospital Board submit to the United States Veterans!
water. Bureau a proposal subject to approval by vote
of the Town for a contract in writing for one
year, renewable annually,.or for such longer
period not exceeding twenty-five years as`the `said
Veterans' Bureau may be authorized to contract
for, to sell water to the said Veterans} Bureau
for the`purpose of supplying the Veterans? Bureau
Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts, at a price•

in the ratio between the amount apportioned on
and charged to the Town by the Metropolitan District
Commission under General Laws, Chapter 92, sec. 26,
and acts in amendment thereof and in addition
thereto, and the total number of cubic feet of
water delivered by the said. Commission to the
Town in any year over the ratio between the same.
items as they existed for the year 1928, and also
plus any additional amount that may be apportioned
on and charged to the Town of Lexington in any
year under section 3 of Chapter 323,of the Acts
of 1927;
Provided that if the said Veterans! Bureau
shall request the said Town of Lexington to lay
and maintain water pipe in the Town of Bedford as
provided in said Chapter 323 of the Acts of 1927,
the said Veterans! Bureau will pay to the Town of
Lexington the entire cost of the contruction and
installation of the said water main in the said
Town of Bedford and will make payments therefor at

the times and in the amounts that the Town of
Lexington shall be bound to pay therefor under
' any contract which shall be made by the said Town
of Lexington for such construction in the Town
of Bedford. Any contract for such construction
in the w Bedford made by the Town of
Lexing, be separate from its contract
for construction in the Town of Lexington',
Provided that the said United States Veterans'
Bureau shall guarantee to the Town of Lexington
consumption of at least eighteen thousand cu.bid
feet per day during the life of the said contract
and that in case the said Veterans, Bureau shall
at any time within twenty-five years from the
date of the said contract fail to renew the said
contract In any year, it will pay to the Town an
amount equal to the entire cost of installing
thw water main from the Arlington line to the
Bedford line by the Town of Lexington for the pur
pose of rerforming the proposed contract, such
payment to be apportione,' over a period of twenty
years.
Provided further that the Veterans► Bureau
furnish to the Town prior to the execution of
such contract an opinion of the Attorney -General
of the United States that the Veteranst Bureau
has authority to enter into such contract.
' The Board voted to authorize Mr. Wrightington
to go to Washington at the expense of the Town.
The Board also voted to insert articles iri the
Town Warrant covering the installation of a
water main from the Arlington Town line to -the
Bedford Town line, the supplying of water to
to the hospital and. the installation of an eight
inch main from Lexington -Bedford Town line to the
hospital.
