REGULAR i.FFTING, FEBRU__RY 19, 1929
A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen
was held at the Selectmen' s Room at 7:30 P. M.
Messrs. Burnham, Ballard, Chamberlain, Custance,
Robertson were present. The Supt. of Public Works
and the Cl rk were also present.
Lakschewitz Hearing was declared open on the application
Garage at 8:30 P M. of George Lakschewitz of 7 Spencer.
Street . Inasmuch as a plot plan showing the location
of the garage was not presented, the hearing was
closed, and the matter was laid over for one week.
Estimates Estimate sheet of the Garbage Collection Depart-
ment was considered. •
Suggestion was made that the stores might be
charged for the additional visits that are mequired
to collect the garbage from the, and also the hotels.
Discussion arose as to the probable growth of
the department, and whether the parties having collections
should be advised to obtain larger containers, so that
they would not have to request collections any more
than the regular established two ' week collections.
It was decided to approve the amount of $6,500
asked for garbage collection
$1750. was voted for traffic beacons.
65,000. for special sidewalks and curbing in
front of the Town property was aprroved, and in this
connection it was voted to construct the sidewalk
and curbing in front of the Parker School, Old Adams
School, New Adams School, and the Saone Building, mad
Munroe School
It was voted to approve the sum of $30,00. for
the purchase of land on Massachusetts Avenue for the
widening in front of the Boutelle Block.
It was voted to approve $6,800. to carry out the
conveyance in connection with Arthur A. Marshall &
Son' s property
Dix Lumber In regard to the sign of the Dix Lumber Company
Company on the State Road, the Supt. of Public Works reported
that the State regulations are now in the Courts for
decision. However, the Board voted to request the
Supt. of Public works to notify the Dix Lumber Company
to remove the sign.
Buckman Letter was received from Mr. Frederick L. Emery
Tavern in which he requested the Board to make allowance for
Shrubs an appropriation for shrubs on the Buckman Tavern
grounds near the public sanitary.
The Board voted to acknowledge to receipt of the
letter and to thank him for his suggestion.

Letter was received from Mr. Frederick L. Emery Judkins
in which he suggested the name of M. B Judkins for Building
the position of Building Inspector to take'-the place Inspector
of Mr. John F. Tibbetts. He suggested that he had
talked with Mr. Judkins, and found that he will
accept the position for the sum of $2500 , provided
an Assistant Building Inspector was appointed to
inspect ,the erection of his houses.
Mr•. Custance brought up the fact that Mr. Judkin's
qualifications wouldnot comply, with the Bpldiug Law,
inasmuch as he has not had ten years experience in
building, and neither is he, an architect.
It was decided tp acknowledgvreceipt of Mr.
Emery's letter and to ask trim if* he felt that Mr.
Judkins had the qualifications required by the
Building Law.
The Board voted to grant bermissinn to the •
N. E. Tel. & Tel. Co. and the Edison Electric E11. ' Pole
Co. to transfer locations on Massachusetts Avenue at Location.
Maple Street, vne pole; Massachusetts Avenue, approx-
imately 380"feetnorthwett of Marrett Road, one pole.

Letter was received from the Town Accountant Westview
giving information in regard to Westview Cemet.ry. Cemetery.
Bids were received on printing of ballots
from C. S. Parker & Son and from the. Hadley Press.
Inasmuch as there was a difference on the amount Printing
of ballots and stock which were bid upon. It was Ballots.
left with the Clerk to get the proper bid from
the Hadley Press and award the bid to the lowest
bidder'. r '
Letter was received from the Plumbing Inspector
explaining the situation relative to one of the
complaints made by Buckley & McCormack relative ' Plumbing
to. plumbing permits being issued to parties without Inspector.

The letter was referred to the Supt. of
Public Works for his attention.

This letter was referred to Mr. Cuetance for'
his attention.
Written petition was received for streets
lights on Brookside Avenue and oral petition for Street
lights on foreland Avenue. lights .
It was decided to insert an article in the
warrant requesting street lights on both of these
highways.
Letter was received from the Town Counsel Public Health
in which he gave his opinion relative to appropriating Association.
money for the Lexington Public Health Association,
and in which he advised that the appropriations of

the Town do not permit paying to any private corporation C
such as the Public Health Association, any money =
appropriated by the Town. He stated the items for
which they may appropriate the money under the control
of the Town.
No action was taken on this matter.
New England Notice was received of the incorporation of the
Press New England Press Association by Lemuel C. Hall, Wareham,
Association President and a Director; Charles Elliot Hadley, 1
.Sheridan St., Lexington, Secretary and a Director;
Walter D. Alen , Brookline, Director; Gardner E.
Campbell, Wakefield, Director; Harry G. Albro, Pal-
mouth; .3. Alex. Lodge, Manchester; Robert H. Martin,
Foxboro; James D. P . Wingate, Medford; and Matthew
F. Divver, Melrose.
Report was received from the Chief of Police
wherein he stated that all of the persons in the
application were highly respected and honorable

The' Board therefor signed the application for a.
charter.
Joint Joint meeting of the Appropriation Oommittee med the
Meeting Board of Selectmen was held.
Disoa;sssion was had as to whether or not articles
requested by Mr. Edward W. Taylor should be inserted in
Articles the annual warrant.
and The members of the Appropriation Committee brought
Estimates up the point as to whether the appropriation for the
Water Department should be recommended at this time,
inasmuch as the appropriation for the Fire Department
was not to be recommended until the Committee had an
opportunity to study the report referred to them at
the Town Meeting Jaa. 7, 1929.
Discussion arose on the various appropriations, and
it was finally voted to approve the following amount*
