Letter was received from Mr. Neil McIntosh re- questing that he be given`a hearing some time in January, 1929 so that he may talk with the Board in regard to highway betterment assessments upon his property. It was decided to request Mr. McIntosh to come A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at the Selectments Office at 7 P.M. Messrs. Burnhnm,('ustance, Chamberlain and Robertson were present. The Sunt, of Public °wor'rs and. the Clerk were also pre.'*ent. The Boar,! met at the Town Office Building and proceeded to the home of Miss Ellen M. Tower at Resolutions. 4 Pelham Road where they received from her the deed of the Tower L rk located on Mass. Avenue opposite Miss Ellen her home, and which has been accepted by the Town, M. Tower. together with a check of'$10,000. to be a fund for maintenance of said park. The Bonrd presented to Miss Tower in return for the gift of the land the resolutions adopted by the Town. Senator Joseph R. Cotton came before the Board and presented to them a form of proof of bill to be presented to the Legislature in connection with having a representative form of town government in the Town of Lexington. This form is su.bstsntially Petition similar to the form'ar?opted by the Town of Winchester with some &light changes. Legislature The Bogr,a expressed the feeling that the Chair - re man of tl^e Ce netery Committee shoul,' be included Rep. Town as a Town Meeting Member at Large. Government. The Board signed the petition to have the bill printed anal placed. before the Legislature, inas- much as Mr. Cotton informed them that they would_ have ample opportunity to study the bill and siiggest whztever changes they desire made when the bill .comes up for hearing. Hearing was declared onen Wpon the application of Mr. Louis '�I. Bills for permission to build a three car garage with one story above the garage, the same to be placed in the rear of his present Louis W.Bills-lbarn and facing on Coolidge !avenue. Mr. Bills together with Mr. Elmer Leonard hearing appeared before the Board to speak for the ap- plication. garage. Mr. Bills stated, that the final _plans were not finished in time to bring before' the meeting, but that he would bring in the plans -a soon as possible. The Board therefore informed him that they would take the matter up again next week. In this connection it was also decided. to Neil McIntosh lay over the matter of abatement of assessment on lots on Prospect Hill Road as requested by Highway 1v`rs. Hazel Al. Barry and. Mr. Charles Harold., inasmuch as idr. McIntosh desires to consult Assessments. with the Hoard in regard to these lots. The weekly report of the Supt of Public '°vorks is as follows: For week ending December 29 1928. Highway Department The Edgewood. Road sewer job has been com- pleted, and a total number of '474' of pipe have been laid. The Hastings Road sew-nr has also been completed, and 4151 of sewer pipe have been Iiid. Three manholes have been constructed. in Edgewood Road, and two manholes have been constructed in Hastings Roar_. 1 The Highway Department was occupied with regular maintenance wor]r cleaning streets, gutters, catch basins, patching street surfaces, cutting back narrow places in East Street. Next week it is -planned to place gravel(to fill ruts and low places in a number of the out- lying streets spreading and grading with road. grader. Moth Department. Gypsy moth. nests treated with creosote on Watertown 6treet, Boorman Street, Fern Street, and Follen Road.. Report of Supt. of Park Department. Regular maintenance work carried on in this Public Department. Works Water Maintenance. Two men have been tying in services. A water service was installed for Roy Ferguson on North Hancock Street; water service for Walter Black on Bloomfield Street; water service for F. B. LeVally on Spring Street. ''later Construction. "70rk was started. on Friday, December 28 on the extension of the 12" water main jnb at the junction of Bedford Street and Elm Avenue. Sewer Construction. The Edgewood. The question of abatement of sewer assessment against the Russell House property was again brought before the Board, inasmuch as no decision had been made on the matter. The report of the Supt, of Public 117orks having Russell House shwwn that some of the property -would be available for house lots on Woburn Street, and that 13,000 sq. sewer assep- ft, would not be available for use owing to the fact thot it bordered the.Railro-r' property, ti -,e Board ment. decided to abate the assessment`on 13,000 sq. ft. of land which would amount to $202.85. Owing to the fact that the old. Town Hall property was used by the Town during the months of April, May and June, 1928, in accordance with agreement made with Solomon H. Rubin & Rose Seligman, owners of the property Abatement the Board voted to ab^te the tax against said owners tax. in the amount of $p415.00. The Board discussed the application of William A Granfield. for gasoline tanks. The Chairman reported that he had been to ' r. Granfield-Is property and he indicated on the plan where Mr. Granfield was willing to place the tanks, the locati n of which was back of the building William A. now located on the property. It was decided to -request Mr. Granfield to Granfield, either correct the blue print now on hand or present to the Board a new plan drawn by an Gasoline tanks. engineer to scale, designating the exact location of, the tanks, and. the Board would then take the matter under consideration further. After considering the matter, the Board decided application, to advertise a public hearing, and to notify the immediate abuttors and the parties who had previously 2 family house. objected to the house being used as a two family house in a single family district. The hearing is to be held on January 22, 1929 at 8 P.M. The Board discussed sidewalk bills of Harry M. Aldrich for sidewalk at the junction of Waltham Street and Mass. Avenue in the amount of $259.15, Rubin do Seligman for sideway, work in front of the new block Sidewalk bill. on Mass. Avenue o-oposite Waltham Street in the amount 346.50, and Theodore A. Custance for work on Audubon Road in the amount of $344.93. After discussing the matter quite completely as to whether the method of procedure w^.s entirely correct to let the contractor do the work and charge it to the Town, Mr. James G. The Supt, of Public Works presented 'forms fbr application for the use of the Cary Memorial Building and license for same w'ich were approved by the Board. The Board also an -roved form of license for transportation of garbage through the Town, and voted to make a charge of $1.00 for the license. The following licenses for tre pasteurization of milk were signed: F. H. Reed Lowell Street Swenson Brothers 210 Marrett Road. Both licenses were annroved by the Health Inspector. The Supt. of Public Works reported that the Nater Department was proceeding very well on the laying of the water main in Mass. Avenue from Elm Avenue, but had reached the point where some ledge was encountered near the Buckman Tavern. He requested permission to continue with the work, inasmuch as the traffic donditions were ideal. The Board therefore voted to authorize tre Supt. of Public `.works to order 1,800 feet of pipe and proceed. to lay the pipe to the High School and there to connect with the 12" main. Letter was received from Mr. Frederick L. Emery in which he stated that at some of the hearings previous to the Town Meeting held for the purpose of discussing tre proposed amendment as it was done to specification. It was also felt that the abuttor would not receive any financial benefit from the layout of a sidewalk along the property. It was trerefore decided: to arnrove these ' bills for payment. The following commitments were signed: Water & Sewer Water Rates $6456.26 Sewer Rentals 266;44 Commitment§ . Sewer Rentals 1055.48 In regard to renewal of insurance, it was found that during tre month of January, 1929 the following policies expired: Insurance Jan. 14, 1929, George '^J. Taylor & Son, $18,284 Jan. 14, 19293, E. A.,Lord & Co. 190400 Renewal. Jan. 151, 1929, Arthur A. Marshall, 19,400 It was decided to hand to Joseph Swan the insurance held by George IN.
