Burnhaw Ballard Chamberlain Custance and Robertson were present. The Supt, of Public �Vor- s and the Clerk pro -tem were also present. At 8:15 P,r;?, David J. "Ialoney and. ir. Justin Shea came before the Boar-- relative to using premises owned by Mr. Shea at 115 Mass. A,,rue, Eost Lexington, for the purpose of conducting a dry cleaning estRblisbment, and keep or store volatile, inflammable liquid in connection therewith. "r. Shea., stated that he wo,ild be willing to expend about 1800 for rutting the nresent wooden ba.ilding u in condition for this business, but the Board thour;ht that tha pr,,sent building would not be strong en^u.gh. 11,11r. Shea also stated t' -at if the business wou1�' pay, th^t he would be willing to demolish. the pr^sent building and erect a modern fire -proof building set back from the street. The Boarr was of the opinion that the section where the building stands now should oe first made a business district, and after t,. is is done, the Boar" will be able to take the matter up. L Mr. ';Villiam A. Granfield's anplication for a gasoline filling station at the corner of Varrett Road and Spring Street was taken from the table, and. after disc-gssing the plan which he presented to the Board, it was decided to refer the i*atter to the Chairman who could request Ur. Gra_nfield to submit further plans showing , the gasoline pumps in a different location, that isone that is not dangerous to the public. , Mr. 71illiam R. Greeley carne before the Board and presented blue print of Police sign at a cost of,$152.00 plus $15.20 for the commission of Kilham, Hopkins & Greeley. It was felt that two blue globes could be attached_ to the corner of the building, and t is would do awR7 with having a sign on a post near the sidewalk. Hearing was declared oven upon the application of Anthony Ross, 627 '_!Vass. A7renue, for permission. to install a gasoline tank in the capacity of 500 gallons at his premises, 5 Cedar Street: Tyr. Anthony Ross, 71r. Harry 'Ui111ams, and ":'r. Turner Kelley appeared. Mr..'Tilliams asked If the pump wo-10 be visible from the street, he was informed that it would not be seem from,the street and it would be near the garage. No persons objected to the permit being granted, and it w s _----- d - voted to grant him permission i when he is ready to install the tank he will communicate with lr. Custance in regarO to the location of the pump. Hearing was declared open upon the application of Perley C. Tibbetts of 62 Reed Street for permission to erect a two car garage on his premises at Vine Brool:'Road. Ir. Perley C. Tibbetts and"r. John F. Tibbetts both appeared in favor of the petition. No persons appeared to object, and it was voted. to grant hir- a permit. The weekly report of the curt. Of Public Works is as follows: 9V r..a For the week ending November 10, 1928. Highway Department. Firi3ikhed for the time being the work in front of the old Town Hall site, Mass. Ave. and Waltham Street. The department w9s occupied with work at Mass. Avenue and Percy Road, Follen Road, clearing away the bank in front of the property of Mr. Arthur Parker. The road leveler was put on Shade Street and the roadway dressed,. Patching was done on Woburn Street and Mass. Avenue and the dirt and leaves cleaned from the gutters of A number of streets. No work has been planned for next week except the regular main. tenance work. Moth Department. This Department has been occupied with the treatment of gypsy moth nests on Concord Avenue, Pleasant Street, Fern Street, Follen Road, and walnut Street. Park Department. This Department has attended to the regular maintenance work. Water MAintenance. A water service was installed for Harlow on Ivan Street. The hydrant on Bedford Street that had been broken off has been replaced with a new hydrant. Two men have continued to work on gates. 'dater Construction. A carload of 8t' pipe was received on Tuesday, November 6, 1928. A crew of men were at work on Ivan Street. Approximately 586, of 8" pipe has been laid in the Hunt development opposite the High School. This work has been done by A. Ross & Son, with the ditching machine. Sewer Maintenance. A sewer service has been installed for rrendergast on Mass. Avenue. Work was started on a service for 0. G. Seeley on Upland Road. All sewers have been flushed with the exception of the trunk line, and I recommend that this be cleaned thovoughly with wire brushes, etc. The work of cleaning up our pipe yard has been completed. Sewer Construction. We have had a few men working on the cleaning up Upland Road. , etc. of We contemplate doing regul'.r water and sewer maintenance work during the week ending November 24, 1928. 443 Engineering Department. Highways. Refigured construction cost of streets at Liberty Heights. Measured yardage of new construction at York St., Simonds Road, and Prospect Hill Road. Drainage. Started work on profile of Clematis Brook, beginning at, Waltham Street and ending at its steep grade easterly of Pleasant St. Miscellaneous. Gave to Star Realty Trust Co. a layout of streets in their X. Lexington development which was approved by the Planning Board. Work on property adjacent to Star Realty frust Co. which is being developed by Mr. Dunn. Checked from Town Records and rewrote descriptions of all R.l., R.2., M. 1., and C. 1, districts. Mass. Avenue renumbering completed to Cedar Street. Yours very truly, Sunt. of Public '.forks Letter was received from the Town accountant that the following accounts need more money to carry them through the balance of the year; Election & Registration, Assessors, Eire Depa»tment, Removal of Ashes & Care of Dumps, Dept. of Public Welfare, Insurance, Soldiers' Relief, Parks & Playgrounds., Highway Construction, (Mass. Avenue, Oak St. to Middle Street), Highway Maintenance, and Sewer Maintenance. Commitment was signed by the Board for sewer assessments in the amoznt of $20,716.06. Bill was approved in the amount of $1300. for survey and report upon the water distribution system of the Town of Lexington, this bill was received from Metcalf & Eddy. Bill was approved in the amount of $lJOOO. for the sewer investigation in the southeast section of the Town. Letter was received from William M. Aquaro asking that.the Order of Sons of Italy, Lexington Lodge #1443 be granted per- mission.to conduct a Sunday moving picture concert at the Lexington ' Theatre for a sick benefit in December, 1928. The matter was discussed, and it was voted to grant them permission to conluct the concert. Letter was received from Robert P. Trask, 610 Mass. Avenue in which he requester] that the sewer be constructed through Hastings Road and. up Mass. Avenue so that he could make connection to the sewer. Mr. Ballard presented plan showing location of Mrs. Trask's house, and the Board decided to authorize the Supt, of Public Works to proceed to install the sewer in Hastings Road, from Lincoln Street to Mass. Avenue, but not in Mass. Avenue as Mr. Trask will be able to connect w�th the sewer if laid in Hastings Road to Mass. Avenue, and. r. Trask was informed to that effect. Letter was received from James Syme, 490 Waltham Street, complaining abou S the bend owned by John Potter of 494 Waltham Street. This matter was referred to the health Inspector to report at the next meeting of the Board. The Board signed the Warrant for a Town Meeting to be held November 26, 1928. Letter was received from Edward W. Taylor, Chief of the Fire Department, in which he told of the dangerous condition of the line of poles from Meriam Street to I;Voburn"Street along Mass. Avenue. This matter was referred to Mr. Albert B. Tenney of the Committee appointed to investigate the Fire and dater Departments. It was decided to request the Town Engineer to present a Plan of Wa'tram Street from Forest Street to Marrett Road at the next meeting of the Board of Selectmen, relative to the widening of this street. The Town Engineer was also requested to draw up description of taking at corner of Percy Road. and Mass. Avenue. Suggestion was made that Mr. Scamman get in touch with Mr. Allen Chamberlain and see about the trees around the Common. Mr. Chamberlain brought up the question of a town forest and the follows11g persons were appointed to serve on a Committee. Mr. Edward . Sargent, Mr. Sheldon A. Robinson, Mr. Allen Chamberlain, Mr. W. Roger Greeley, and Mrs. Hollis Webster. Mr. Robertson reported that he will take the matter of I settlement of damages with r. George Whiting up with the Tovin Counsel and ask him to draw up a release for $125.00 and have Mr. Whiting sign same. Mr. Custance brought up the matter that a set of resolutions should be adopted to present to the Town Meeting relative to the acceptance of Tower Park in East Lexington. Mr. Scamman was authorized to purchase four loads of material at $4.00 per load to fill up some holes in the Reservoir. The bill of the Industrial Appraisal Company for $450.00 was approved bi,1 the Board. Mr. James H. Russell and Mr. Joseph Cotton appeared before the Board_ relative to matters contained in his letter of Oct. 30, 1928 namely, having a room in the Cary Memorial Building to keep their equipment and records in, and the use of the smell 1 1 hall free of charge. The matters were discussed at length, and they were finally left with the Chairman to go over the building with ' Mr. Russell and decide what can be ,done. The meeting adjourned at 11:30 P.I.
