A special meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at the
' Selectmen's 3oom on November 9, 1928 at 7:30 P.M., to hear all
parties interested in the laying out of Baker Avenue, Bennett
Avenue, Butler Avenue ani Chase Avenue. Messrs. Burn4a% Ballard
Chamberlain, Custance and_ Robertson were present. The Supt, of
Public!;1orl>s, ''illiam S. Scamma.n, the Assistant Town Engineer..
Stanley A. Higgins, and. the Clerk pro -tem were also present.
At 7:30 P.M. the hearing w -s declared open with about 25
persons present.
Mr. Francis J. Toye of 3 Imes Avenue was present and. although
he does not own property on any of the said streets, he was
interested to know Wily the cost of �3.00 and 'x,3.50 per foot was
more than that when Uarville Avenue was constructed. he also
stated that Bennett Avenue should not be laid out as the
abuttors were not interested to have it accepted.
Mr. Clarence E. MacPhee wtated that no ledge wns encountered
on Baker A-enue when water pipe was laid, and he felt that the
item of ledge •,etas high on account of this fact. lie was informed`
by Mr. T. A. Custance that the figures presented were merely
an estimate of the work, and- Were high enough to Include any
ledge that might be found.. He also stated that if the actual,cost
of the wort, did not come up to the estimate, that the abuttors assess-
ment would be less than the estimate.
' Mr. Joseph L. Dahlstrom, 48 Chase Avenue, stated, th t he
thought the cost p=r foot w -s too high as he wou.ld'not be benefitted
enough by the acceptance of the street, he thought, to warrant
his signing for the estimated assessment.
Mr. Malcolm 11. Clifford, 83 Chase Avenue, suggested that that
part of Chas(-, Avenue beyong Bennett Avenue, that part of Baker
Avenue beyond. Butler Avenue,& that part of Bennett Avenue from Chase
Avenue to Tarvell Avenue be left out of estimate.
Mrs. Bertha J. Cook, 15 Butler Avenue, did not want Butler Avenue
accepted as she thirlrs the street is in rro^d condition now.
W Mrs. Rose "aloney, Ba':-.r,r Av-r_ue, would. like to have Butler
Avenue accepted if the cost is not too high.
Mr. Frank Berry, Butler Avenue could not be present but he
informed. 1'lr. i,ac?'hee that he would like to have Butler Avenue accepted..
After hearing all parties interested the hearing was adjourned for
one week,, November 16, 1928 at 7:30 at which time estimates will
be presented on the streets
suggested be left out. , omitting the parts that the abuttors

to consult with them in regard to the recommendations concerning
imnrovements of t? -e '"meter !"corks of the Town.
. Toget' er they went over the recom-.endations msade for re-
inforcements to the syst,m taking up each item in succession.
Mr. Sherman was asked his opinion as to the laying of a 12"
main in Massachusetts Avenue and Bedford Street between Vlaltham
Street and Elm Avenue for the first job in preference to
starting at the end of the 12" pipe opposite the High School,
and he stated that he thought it was a good thing to do as it
would tend to strengthen the line in Bedford. Street north,

accordance with the recommendations made in the report made by

Z'_he Supt, of Public "forks was also instructed to confer with
the ','Vater Department of Arlington and the Metropolitan Commission
in regard to the openin.t, of the six inch gate in ?°lestminister
Avenue, which is now considered. as an emergency supply, re-
placing the' present meter with. a four inch Detector Meter in
accordance with their recommendati^n number 1 on nage 12 of the
report, and to ta'.re up recom ednation 2 and renort what con-
nections have been made, and also recommendation number 3.
Also to have the Engineering Department gather all information
available in regard to possible land developments and those under
way in order th2.t the Boar-' co-ld give further consideration to
recommendations number�4 and 5.
The matter of unpaid water bills was considered. A report,
and recommendation is desired from the €upt, of Public "forks in
regard to this matter.
The Board arranged a conference with the committee on investi-
gation of the Fire Department for Friday evening, November 16, 1928
at 8:15 P.M.
