At 7:45 P.Y. lir. Ralph Marshall and Mr. Arthur A. Marshall
came before the Board relative to the right of way between the
Eroperty of Lillian G. (?. Lois Y. Marshall and the Cary Memorial
ibrary,
Mr, Ralph Marshall stated that they are desirous of building a
block on their present location, and he asked_ that the Board of
Selectmen insert an article in the `,'arrant for the nest town
meeting giving the Selectmen the right to negotiate with
Lillian G. & Lois Marshall to release this right of way which
is at the present time 10 feet wide so that the may have a
walk five feet wide where the right of way is a the present time.
They also asked that the Selectmen negotiate with them for a piece of
land so that they might straighten their property line to be �.a.t'_
right angles to Massachusetts Avenue. Mr. Marshall presented
plans of lot of land and proposed. building.
The matter- rens referred to Mr. Theodore A. Custance to confer
with the Town Counsel relative to proper article to be inserted
in warrant,

teat an extension of time be granted to him to 4F'l, 1929.
Mr. Connors has been moving his pigs frog- time to time as soon
as he has completed the houses in Lincoln, but he fins that ,
he cannot move them all b•:- November 1, 1928, and therefore, he
asked for an extension of�time.
It was decided_ to as1{ tye Health Insnector to make a renort
to the Board oC the conditign of Mr. Connors I rremises.
At 8:30 P.M. hearing imps declared oven upon the apnllcation
of the Lexington ContractingCompanv for permission to install a
gasoline tank in the capaciy of 500 gallons on farm of John Shaw,
Bow Street, Lexingtor.
No persons anneared to object, and it was voted to grant the
permit.
At 8:38 P.M. hearing was declared open upon the application
of 'William A. Gran.field for permission to install a gasoline tank
in the capacity of 2,000 gallons on his premises at corner of
r"arrett Rond and Spring Street. lie desires this permit so that
he might have a gasol•in- filling station at that location.
No persons anreared to object.
It was decided to ask Mr. Granfield to present a plot plan of
bis property at Spring St. and varrett Rd. showing present' location
of buildings and also showing proposed tanks and buildings.
Mr. Converse Kill appeared before the Boarn in regar°d to placing
blanket insurance on -all town buildings. The members discussed
each item separately, and the Board decided to request stir, ,
Hill to discuss with the Industrial Appraisal Co, the item of
Cary Memorial Library which was listed at :280,000, and which
they felt should be about $90,000.

Highway Department.
' The construction of Prospect Dill Ro-.d has been completed.
On regalar maintenance tvorir, Concord_ Avenue has been patched,
brush hab been cut on East Street, catch basins and gutters
have been cleaned, the shoulders on `.oburn Street have been
smoothed.
Next week the Denartment will clean the leaves from the
various str^ets and attend to other mnintenance worlr.
+'-oth Department.
The Department has treated gyrsy moth nests on the
following streets: `aVooO. School, ?"atertown, BowmRn, and Bowman
Park, and will be occupied with tl_is work nest week.
Park Department.
The Parl•- Department has attended to the regular maintenance
work.
Water maintenance.
The followini- servieds have been installed; McNeil �
Cochrane, Bridge Street; Prenderg-st, Truss. Ave., completed;
Sibley, Eliot Road; ";ebb, -Voodlan Road; renewal for Connors,
Concord. Hill.. Four corporation cocks have b -en cleaned
out where the pressure was found to be poor. I started this week
to tie in all services, and. I intend that this work will.
continue until all house services have been tied. in. A new
pit meter has been built at the corner of Sand. Pit Road and.
Bedford Street, and a heavy pit cover and frame wa% used due to
the heavy truclTing done by the Lexington Sand & Gravel Co., and
passing over tris pit.
'"Fater Construction.
Approximately 1151 of pipe have been laid in Bernard Street
beyond Ivan Street, and 961 of 8" pipe have been laid. in Ivan
Street! The connection has been made in Bedford. Street ( at
Sunnyfield) with the 6" main.
Sewer Construe#ion.
• Approximately 115, of 81' pipe have been laid in Upland Road.
Sewer Maintenance.
One sewer connection was made to Cloyes, on Upland Road.
On Wednesday, October 24, 77e started to flush sewers, and this
work will continue until all sewers are flushed.
The work contemplated. for the week ending 'November 10
is as follows: continuation of the Glen Ro•-d and. Upland Road
sewers; water and sewer services; completion of the Ivan Street
water mean extension.

Sewers
Grades for construction at Upland Road.
'Plater.
One member of Engineering Department worked entire week
locating and checking ties to water shut -offs.
Highways.
Completed plans of Summit Road. and Pinewood Street for
acceptance and wvote descriptions of same.
-'Miscellaneous.
Attended PlanFing Board meeting October 26th to revise and
amplify zoning Laws.
Made profiles of streets thru Star Realty nevelopmett to
ascertain correct layout.

Order for joint pole -re -location of the N. E. Tel. & Tel.
Co. and the Edison Electric 111. Co. for one pole on Bedford
Street opposite Bernard Street was granted.
Letter was received from the Town Counsel in which he stated
teat he thought it better to leave in the deed to the Town of
Tower Park the clause in said deed referring to the "'emorial
to be situated in the southern part of the Park.
Upon the advice of the Counsel, the Board decided to leave
the clause in the deed.
The application of the NOR E. Tel. & Tl. Co. for conduit
location at Marrett Ro-d and Waltham Street was referred to the
Supt, of Public °forks, as tle Board felt tl,-t the man hale shown
upon the plan submitted was in the 3riidd.1F,,the street, and
thFt it should be placed to one side of t'ie' road.
Letter was received from the Supt, of Public Works relative
to sidewalks in East Lexington along the new construction. This
matter was laid upon the table until next week.
Messrs. Lima, Cutler, Swenson, Silva, Rood, Ferrazani,
DeVincent, Condinho, Ferri, and ^vieek appeared before the Board
relative to drainage of brook w?-,ich crosses Pleasant Street and
Waltham Street.
Mr. Cutler stated that if this brook is widened enough
to drain the land abutting on it properly that it would improve
the property, as no fall plowing can be done on account of the
wet land.
Mr. Frederick J. Spencer, Assistant Assessor, presented
figures of about $3400000. this being the assessed valuation

of property along this brook.
It was voted that the Sunt. of rlablic Works have a
topographical survey made of the brooks draining the low lands
south of V=rett Ron,' and west of 'd ltram Street, and that he
bring before the Board an esti.m-te of the cost of the work,
list of rroperty owners benefitted by the drainage, and. estimated
amount of the benefit to be assessed to each abuttor,
The Supt. of Public '.^forks presentecj plan of 12" water main
in Mass. Avenue from Waltham Street to tlm Avenue, but no action
was taken.
Mr. Ross, Supt. of the ',"later &- Sewer Dert. was to be requested
to be present next Tuesd.av evening, at the meeting of the Board
and to present figure- on earnings for the second-quarter of 1927
in comparison with the earnings of the second quarter in 1928,
and to compare the third quarter of 1927 with the earnings of
third. quarter of 1928. He was also requested to present figures
showing the expenses of the !.later Dept. for 1927 and 1928.
Mr. Custance broug1t up the matter of moving the curbing in
front of the new Rubin Seligman blo^,'z opposite Waltham Street,
and presented plan showing the curbing moved back about fifteen
feet, and it a line with the widening at Depot Park.
The Bogrd decided to request the Supt. of Public "forks to
have the curbing placed back this distance, the work to start
immed.iately.

It was decided to hold a town meeting on November 22, 1928,
at 7:30 P.Y.
Aprlication wa.s signed for Rglph Shorey, -who desires to
incorporate the Phi Delta Zeta 7r9ternity. r. Shorey is a
resident of Leyington and is of gond character.
Application was signed by the Boa- I for Yrs. Addie T,loyd
230 Mass. Avenue, Lexington for entrance to a tuberculosis
sanatorium.
