A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held it the
' Selectmen 's Office at 7 30 P P . T"essrs, Burnham, Custance and
Robertson were present, The Supt of l'unli c Works and the Clerk
were also present
Mr James H Russell anneared at the request of the Boa-d
that the Committee on Veterans 7e orial meet the Board of
Selectmen at 8 15 F M. No other person appeared to object so
no business was taken up
Hearing was declared open upon the application of the Fairways
Construction Company for permission to install a gasoline tank on
their premises. No persons appeared to object, and it was voted
to grant them permission to install a gasoline tank of 300 gallons on
the Golf Club premises on Cedar street
The State Aid pay roll in the amount of 426. 00 was signed.
The clerk reported that the order for the Upland Road sewer has
been filed at East Cambridge . No action was taken, however, by
the Board in regard to the installatier of the sewer in Upland
Road, inasmuch as they desire to await the presentation of the
plan by the Sunt of Public orks .
The Board signed anrlication for entrance of Edward L. Kelly
of 353 Mass Avenue, to be send to Rutland tate Sanatorium
Letter was received from Albe t B. Tenpey wherein he quoted
a letter which he suggested be sent to the 1J , Insurance Ex-
change asking that a test be made of the fire hose in the town
The Board agreed to send the letter to the N E. Insurance Ex-
change asking that this +-est be made .
Petition was received from Mary G Mullen and Mary A Welch
of 53 Mass. Avenue , asking that their business be increased to
conform with Section 16 of the Zoning Law.
Release was also received from them of a thirty ( 30 ) foot
strip of land for the entire length of their property for building
line purposes.
The Board decided to give a hearing on this matter in accordance
with Sect on 16 of the Zoning Lahr.
A street sign survey made by the Town Engineer of the signs
from Woburn Street to rlarke Street was presented No action
was taken upon the same
The application of Gaetano Coscia for permission to erect a
barber pole at 458 mass Ave was refused hzr the Board
Orders were signed for extra work on Sickle Brnnk in the amount
of ''525.00.
A common Victualler ' s License was -ranted to George F Farrington

Report was received from the .$upt of t-ublie works in re-
gard to requests made h7r the Board to carry out recommendations
of the Traffic Committee
Ho stated that he had completed the following work
A flashing gas beacon has been placed in the center of the junction
of Waltham St. , and Concorl Avenue
A stop sign has been placed on Hayes Avenue near its entrance to
Hancoc'. Street, and a slow sign on Hancock Street near Hayes
Avenue entrance.
Pt Grant St at its entrance to Mass . Ave . , a stop sign has been
placed and at Bow "trent the same has been done At these two
placed it seemed better to place metal signs as the surface is not so
gond to hold the large letters .
At Bedford St , a cross-road warning sin has been placed about 300
ft north of Elm Avemle A slow sir has been planed on the road-
way about 50 feet north of Elm Ave , and e stop sign has been placed
on the surface Elm Avenue on each side of its crossing of Bedford

Report Gas received from Russell I . Prentiss directed to
him by Dr Bigelow, state Boar of Health, wherein he reported
that the water running into the swimming pool in the Playground
was contaminated by the piggery located near tl:at section. It
was decided to give t is letter to the newsraner when oilcially
received from Dr Bigelow, so that persons in Town might be informed
as to conditions of the water and knn why a swimninpool was
not allowes- this year

The Board considered the mat F .;r of placing lights on the
parking area in the rear of the ry 'n Office 'dui-filing and decided

eir recommendations and e,timated cost of same .
It was also decided to roluos 1; them to give the Board the
price of an illuminated sign to be marked "Police Station" to
be erect rnd over the entrance to the drive .

of an automatic traffic signal tc he located at I,he junction
of T•larrett Road ond altham -tre€ t, and to find out what
he attitude of the St wonld le in rogard to placing one
in that location.

his ideas in regard to the advisabilit,- er laying thi main
previous to the construction of thi s street.

water main in Lincoln tree t, a distance on approximately 250 feet

to meet the grade of the new construction betwe n Marrett Road
and Oal, Street.
Next weel,‹ the Department will continue the sewer construction
in Eliot Road and Tavern Lane and the extension of the water main
in Lisbeth Street and Clellard Roa,' which we are urable to reach
