A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held n.t the
' Selectments Office, at 7:30 P 1 1°essrs. Burnham, Custance and
Robertson were present. The Sunt. of Public TJorks and the Clerk
viere also present.
Mr. James I , . Russell anneared at the request of the Board
that the Committee on Veterans 7-,"e-:7orial meet the Board of
Selectmen at 8:15 P. r1. No other person ap-eared to object so
no business was taken up.
Hearing vias declared oven upon the application of the Fairways
Construction Company for permission to install a gasoline tank on
their premises. No persons appeared to object, and it was voted
to grant them permission to install a gasoline tank of 300 gallons on
the Golf Club premises on Cedar Ltreet.
T,,e State Ai' pay roll in the amount of 4,126.00 was signed.
The clerk reported that the order for the Upland Head sewer has
been filed nt East Cambridge. No action was taken, however, by
the Boar(9 in regard to the installati-r of the sewer in Upland.
Road., inasmuch as they desire to awa5_t the presentation of the
plan by the Sunt. of Public "forks.
The Board signed nnnIleation for entrance o^ Edward L. Kelly
of 353 Mass. Avenue, to be send to Rutlanr' State Sanatorium.
Letter was received from xlbet B. Tenney ;^Therein he quoted
a letter which he suggested be sent to the 'v. Insurance Ex-
change asking that a test be made of the fire hose in the town.
The Boar(9 agreed to send the 7 -otter to the, N. E. Insurance Ex-
change asking that this test be made.
Petition was received from Mary G. Mullen and 'Mary A. Welch
of 53 Puss. Avenue, asking that their business be increased to
conform with Section 16 of the Zoning Law.
Release was also received from them of a thirty (30) foot
strip of land for the entire length of their property for building
line purposes.
The Board decided to give a hearing on this matter in accordance
with Seet�on 16 of the Zorin� Law.

Report was received from the Sunt. of tublic '"'orks in re-
gard to requests ma,'e by the Board to carry out recommendations
of the Traffic Committee.
He stated that he had completed the following worlT:
4 flashing gas beacon has been placed in the center of the junction
of 1altham St., and Concord Avenue.
A stop sign has been placed. on Haves Avenue near its entrance to
Hancocl. Street, and a slow sign on Hancock Street near Mayes
Avenue entrance.
At Qrant St. at its entrance to Mass. A7e., a stop sign has been
placed and at Bow :'treet the same has been done. At these two
placed it seemed better to place metal signs as the surface is not so
good to hold the large letters.
At Bedford St., a cross -road warning sior has been nlaced about 300
ft. north of Elm Aver;.e. A slow sign has been placed on the road-
way about 50 feet north of Elm Ave., and a stop sign 1 -,as been placed
on the surface Elm Avenue on each side of its crossing of Bedford. ,
St., also the street lip,''t. -t the corner of nedford Street and
Elm Avenue has been increased to 60-0 c. p.

Avenue it seems better to wait until the const:ruction of 'Mass.
Avenue is completed and then place the warning signs.
ReTDrt was received from Russell I. Prentiss directed to
him. by Dr. Bigelow, State Boar' of Health, wherein he reported.
that the wator running into the swimming pool in the Playground
was contaminated. by the piggery locatednear that section. It
was decided to give tris letter to the newspaper wlhen of>3cially

The Clerk presented ttie records on Hill Street and it was

price of an illuminated sign to be marked "Police Station" to
be erected over the entrance to the drive.

Trees have been trimmed on Pleasant Street and on Mrassaebusetts
Avenue. Brush previously- cut and dried has been burned. on Lowell
Utreet and on I?ill_ 'trent.

Sewer Construction.
About 200 ft. of 8" sewer pipe has been laid. in Eliot Ro-d
from its junction with Tavern Lane towards Pelham Road, and two man-
holes constructed_ in the 1'ne; also, hsve made the connection with

All ;v^ter and sewer *)ine has been laid in th,� Sr1itl�-Robbins
Development, and after tre construction of two manholes and the
clead.ingr up of surplus material_ las been finished, the job will '
be completed.

One sewer connection made in Cottage Street to the O?Connor
property, and two sewer connections made with houses in the
Smith -Robbins property.

A 40 -ft. extension of the 6" main has been made in Outlook

in Eliot Road and Tavern Lane and the extension of the water main ,
in Lisbeth Street and Clelland Roar which we are unable to reach
daring the present wee'.
