Lexington Youth Commission Meeting of November 16, 1982 Minutes �� cQVFD y 0 /I MFM � Present Ron Wells , Fancy Barter, Ron Marble , John McGuirr, Students Laura, Julie , Amy, Davida (new) Chris Berne, / 4t Frank Vittemberga Absent Dan Murphy Minutes were read - correction - Julie Hansens name excluded fr.'t last Minutes- Julie Hansen was present, Minutes were then approved. Ron opened meeting and explained to new student members, Chris and Frank about the Youth Commission, he was interested in their involvement . Also, he hoped they were joining to be a voice for the youth in lexington, and not for resume purposes It was decided that the Youth Commission keep students to six on the Board, and students in the coning year had up to November to join the Youth Commissin next year. John McGuirr met with Bart Carr (Recreation) . Bart reported that the be up again this year for Town Meeting. Cost close to $200,000 L.Y C could be of help to Recreation. Bart Carr will be invited to address this at one of our future meetings John McGuirr then spoke of his meeting with Nancy to see BoB Davinport at Lexington High School Mr Southwick will be looking into Student Government Day, with Mr. Davinports approval. Mr Southwick wants local Government study He will contact Mr Hutchinson in inviting him to the L.H S to address the students involved in Student Government Julie will also check in with Mr Southwick to see how the project is going Ron Wells will be going to the Selectmen Breakfast to speak on next years Budget The committee decided to stay at Level Funding $500 .00 Lexington Youth Awards $200 00 Youth Education $150.00 Student Gov't Day $100 00 Miscellaneous $ 50 00 $500.00 Amy reported on meeting with Mrs Sidman at the L H.S The slide program would be 11/2 - 2 hours, film strips and discussion, Why Teens Commit Suicide, Symptoms, How to Respond, Alert parents of Teems to Suicide Mrs Sidman would like this to be brought to the Junior High Level . Mr Hibbard would be notified at Clark Jr High This should be also explained as a social concern, so that some parents do not take personal John McGuirr saw the film and felt it was too long Alcohol should be brought to the Junior High LeyeJ, High School, and Suicide, etc Alcohol Presentation (Jr High) Suicide then could be brought into it. (Project Base) Alcohol Education Training, Waltham, and Casbar - Somerville were contacted by Amy Lynn Tucker contacted Amy from Waltham, and will meet with Ron Well , students at Awys Thursday, to go over program. Ron also mentiored receiving a call on "Tomer", one person who goes into a heavy description, Alcohol , Drug Abuse Price for him as a speaker $5000.00 A price too high for L Y C to handle Cable also called Ron, and they will cover a special event) We will contact them to cover our Alcohol Program scheduled February 3, 1983 . Laura who also is doing internship for TV network, will look into coverage for the Youth Commission . Nancy will cover P.T .A' s Ron Marble will go to speak with a personnel friend who is State Police, regarding lectures and other input, etc Ron Wells mentioned he has submitted letter to Board of Selectmen , and one to Senator Campbell . Alcohol Program date will be Feb 3, 1983, Ron will try to schedule assembly at Clark Jr High.
