In February, a Drug Education Night, featuring four inmates from Concord' s Northeastern Correctional Institute was attended by approximately 125 people . In April, Youth Recognition Awards were given to High School seniors Joseph P Crimmins, Anne Doherty and Rebecca Rotberg, and a special award for inspiration and courage was given to Danny Murphy. In May, a plaque was given to Dick Albert, the Channel 5 Weatherman, for his "Use Your Smarts" program. In May and June, over $1, 300 was raised for a scholarship fund to send a Lexington youth to the Minnesota Outward Bound program. Throughout the school year, a pilot Kids-To-kids program provided a high school friend to several elementary school youths Over the summer, the successful Hire-A-Youth program will be repeated, and is expected to provide employment to about a hundred Lexington youth All in all, this was a good year for the Youth Commission and we look forward to working together again next year. -1- YOUTH COMMISSION MEMBERS ADULTS Ron Wells, Chairman , 59 . The L Y C. recognizes its changing role in serving the community. The L Y C also recognizes the need to justify the funding request. The L Y C. has planned a drug education evening for February 4, 1982, at the Clark Jr. High School The drug education evening is set up as follows 7:30 p m A Lexington Police Officer speaking on drug abuse, statistics, and drug laws. 8 15 p m Four prison inmates from the Northeastern Correctional Institution in "Project Stop" 9 00 p.m. A movie entitled "The Perfect Drug " The L.Y.C. is in the process of designing a Needs Assessment Survey to distribute to junior and high school students and their parents, in order to aid the L Y.C. in determining specific issues and concerns of Lexington 's youth The L.Y.C. is seriously considering reinstituting the Mock Town Meetings for the youth to participate in The L Y C would like to plan additional evening programs, but we find it difficult and frustrating to plan any activities without an actual budget The L Y C. feels the request for funding in the amount of $700 00 is justified, as we the Youth Commission want to service the community as effectively and confidently as possible.
