Present. Nancy Barter, Jim Findley, Ron Marble, John McGirr, Ron Wells, Bea Phear
Minutes
The minutes of the meeting of March 2 were approved as ammended
The Youth Commission had voted to present the Outward Bound proposal to
the Selectmen
The Outward Bound cost is $1,500 rather than 1,100
RePlace
We discussed the need to have better communication with RePlace and other organizations
that serve youth Decided. to have a joint meeting with RePlace Ron will schedule
Also, we will propose the idea of having a "Youth Commission suggestion box" at Replace
Date of RePlace Meeting Tuesday, April 27 at 7 30 pm at RePlace
Outward Bound
Ron Wells summarized recent developments The Selectmen approved out request to
raise funds for the program Mrs Smith, the Assistant Chief Probation Officer,
Juvenile Department at the Concord Court, stated that it would be possible to send
an appropriate Lexington youth to the program The Minnisota Outward Bousnd program
was selected because it offers the greatest diversity of activities
Nancy reported that she has requested approval from the Chamber of Commerce to
solicit funds from business sources
Decided Ron Wells will draft a letter to solicit funds
Ron Marble was elected treasurer of the LYC Outward Bound Fund
Youth Employment Service
We agreed that this program would be worthwhile if it could be administered by a
summer intern Bea will keep us posted
Youth Recognition Award
John and Ron Marble reported that applications were slower than normal, but there was
still a week to go They will find out about a banner for the presentation ceremony
Friends of the LYC Fund
Ron Wells was contacted by a former LYC member, Marcia Feakes, who would like to turn
over esponsibility for the approximately $250 in the fund to someone else
Decided We will continue to maintain the fund Ron Marble will handle administration
Discover Lexington Day (May 29)
We shared ideas on possible activities have kids help older citizens learn about
Lexpress provide a blood pressure teating facility rent a popcorn machine, provide
a brochure on the LYC, distribute a questionnaire
Next Meeting
The next meeting will be held as scheduled 7 30 pm, April 6, room 111 Town Office Bldg
