HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-03-02-LYC-min.pdf s Lexington Youth Commission RECEIVED SELECTMEN Minutes of the Meeting of March 2, 1982 l i\R 511982 :=3f° Present Ron Wells, Nancy Barter, Ron Marble, Johm McGirr; Students Mary-Ellen Sirianos, Phil Deutch, Diane Parr Minutes The minutes were approved as mailed Drug Program Responses to the audience questionnaire were read (attached) 61 answered, and 51 felt it was worthwhile The inmate lecture was enjoyed most, the police lecture least 44 people would attend and encourage others to attend other programs, especially on child abuse and alcohol abuse We feel the program went well Replace Replace cancelled the meeting that had been scheduled and haven't set up a new date, probably next month Warrant Articles The Warrant booklet is out 1 Bicycle path is a controversial issue - a lot of people are against it 2 Safehouse and RePLace - Nancy Barter will report back Youth Commission Budget We received $500 00 budget for FY 1983 Outward Bound Scholarships Outward Bound runs a survival school, 26 days long, at a cost of $1,100, in groups of eight people - coed or not coed. They lead up to a three day "solo" experience There was discussion about whether the Youth Commission might want to back sending a kid by raising money Benefits are self confidence One question is how to decide who gets the award, it was suggested that maybe the courts could, through the probation department Project STOP Diane and Mary Ellen will find out about Project STOP at Lexington High School Youth Awards There will be a meeting next Thursday Members are from the Rotary, Police, School systept Lions Club and Youth Commission A standard format is distributed through the schools people submit names, and the nominee fills out a form Nominations close on March 20 Fifteen to twenty people are nominated Notices are now out for this award and soliciting names There was an article in the newspaper about it They base who gets it on a point system Youth Summer Employment Bea is looking to get an intern from B C or B U for youth employment, as it is too big a responsibility for the Youth Commission. Next Meetings Tuesday, March 16 Tuesday, April 6 Agenda 1 Nancy Barter will look over Warrant Articles to see if LYC wants to get involved 2.
