MINUTES OF THE MUZZEY JR. HIGH SCHOOL CONVERSION COMMITTEE SELECTMEN ✓
Meeting of November 12, 1981 NOV 1 7 19W
Present George Harris, Bill Spencer, Martin White, Don Giller, Leo P McCabe,
Mary Shunney and Robert Hutchinson
In the absence of the Chairman, Al Buse, Vice-Chairman George Harris opened the
meeting at 8 00 p m. and asked Mary Shunney if she would like to give her reaction
to the comments received at the public meeting and also any recommendations for
proceeding with the conversion of the Muzzey Jr High Mary agreed that there did
not seem to be any strong sentiment for or against any particular use at this time
She is concerned about the source of funding for housing such as the Lexington
Housing Authority's proposal or any other subsidized proposal In addition, since
the building would have to be turned over to the LHA before they could proceed to
apply for funding, Mary is concerned about the length of time it would take to
to accomplish approval Further, she feels we should seriously consider oppor-
tunities to turn this building into something which would financially benefit the
Town
Bill Spencer spoke to the LHA contact at HUD, Jane Johnson, about converting funds
which have been set aside for condominiums to Muzzey conversion However, they
are not ready to give up on the condos yet. However, Jane's personal opinion is
that if and when the condo proposal is ruled out, she would favor transferring
those funds to something like Muzzey conversion George Harris stated that he
has a contact in Washington and would be willing to contact them to see if we
could transfer these funds Bob Hutchinson suggested that we definitely go beyond
our local, regional contacts Bill Spencer added that LHA would be willing to
adjust their proposal depending upon funding available
A discussion followed about the ad which will be put into the Boston Globe seeking
proposals The ad as now written addresses only leasing the building After some
dialogue, it was voted to change the ad to read "prefers long-term lease but
would consider purchase" Line regarding parking should be changed to read "cur- '2
rently estimating parking for 60 cars" Statement long-term rental of school
should be changed to "building and land It was unanimously voted to place ad in
Boston Globe with aforementioned changes
Don Giller asked if any study had been done in recent years regarding the recreation
space (gym and playgrounc) It was suggested that we talk to the Recreation Committee
and get some input from the users
Meeting was adjourned at 9 03 p m. The next meeting will be held Thursday, December 17
Respectfully submitted,
Mary E Shunney
