regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at the
Selectmen's office at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Custance, Burnham, Ballard, '
Robertson and Chamberlain were present. The Supt. of Public Works
and the Clerk were also present.
The records were approved.
The Board.signed the contract for the construction of Waltham
Street from Allen Street to Concord Avenue. This contract will also
be executed by the State Department of Public Works, and a copy re-
turned to this office.
Hearing was declared open upon the application of Mary Z. Leger
of Cary Avenue for permission to erect a one car garage on her
premises, at 8;30 P.M.
Mr. Leger was present in favor of the petition, and no persons
objected. It was therefor voted to grant the permit.
Hearing was declared open upon the application of Elsie U. and
Russell I. Prentiss for permission to erect a one car garage on their
premises.
Mr. Prentiss was present, and no persons appeared to object.
It was therefor voted to grant the permit.
Application was received from Harry A. Burgess of Cedar Street
for a permit to keep 500 pigs. Health inspector, Russell I. Prentiss,
advised that this permit be not granted. After consideration of the '
application, the Board voted not to grant the permit.
The Board approved the bill of Sydney R. Wrightington for servid.es
in the case of William J. Miskell amounting to $549.45.
The Board adjourned to the office of the Assessors to discuss the
matter of establishing a tax rate.
Mr. Ballardpresented a detailed specification of the Town Map
for a block system as drawn up by Richard F. Lufkin, engineer and
draftsman of Boston.
Inasmuch as Mr. Chamberlain was requested to report on the matter
of block plan, he was requested to give his recommendation on this
specification. Mr. Chamberlain felt that the Town Engineer should
go over the specifications also to view the maps dwawn by Everett
Montague at Belmont, and to interview the Board of Assessors to find
out what information they desire to have on the matter, and report to
the Board fully what his recommendation is.
Some discussion was had on the bill of 'getcalf & Eddy for ser-
vices rendered in connection with the drainage of Vine Brook, but no
action tgas taken on approving the bill.
In regard to the change in water rates, it was decided to wait I
until notification is given of the assessment caused by the Swift
River proposition.

Application for the approval of lay out of lots and streets
on land located on Massachusetts Avenue near the corner of "'aple
Street was received from James A. Nickerson.
It was decided to refer this application together withplan,
which is forthcoming,to the Planning Board for their study.
Letter was received from the Town Accountant in which he
called attention to the fact that it was necessary to borrow
$100,000. and to issue notes therefor dated September 1, 1927
and payable April 60 1928. The Board voted to instruct the Town
Accountant together with the Town Treasurer to advertise forbids.
A delegation of boys from East Lexington came to complain about the
condition of the playground in the rear of the Adams School. They
stated that they were unable to have baseball or football games owing
to the long grass and stones on the field, and desired to know if the
Board would do some work on the field. Through Richard Talcott they
offered to assist in raking the stones and helping clean the field up.
The boys were infcr med that Mr. Ballard who has charge of the
Park Department would be informed of their request and he would see
what could be done.
The meeting adjourned at 9 P.M.
