REGULAR MEETING, AUGUST 16, 1927.
A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at the
Selectmen's Office at 8 P.M. Messrs . Custance, Burnham, Robertson,
were present. William S. Scamman, Supt. of Public Works and the
Clerk pro-tem were also present.
The records of last meeting were approved.
Mr Joseph N. McDonald together with Mr. John F. Tibbetts,
Building Inspector, came before the Board to ask permission to
erect two houses on a lot of land o"ned by him at the corner of
Bowker Street and Taft Avenue. Although the lay out does not
comply with the Zoning Law, Mr. McDonald was given permission to
erect two houses, as this lay out way made prior to the Zoning
Law.
Petition was received from the residents of Grant Street
asking that street lights be installed on that street. The Supt.
of Public V orks was requested to find out how many lights, are
needed, and the residents of Grant Street were notified that an
article will be inserted in the next town warrant.
Complying with the request of the Board to present a plan of
his property with buildings thereon in regard to an application
to build a garage, a plan was received that is satisfactory to
the Board. f,fter some discussion it was voted to grant Mr. Leslie S .
Spencer permission to erect a garage on his premises at 38 !`'oburn St.
At 8 30 P. I. hearing was declared open upon the application of
William G. Potter of Walnut Street to install a 300 gallon gasoline
tank on his premises for private use. No persons appeared to object
and it was voted to grant the permit .
Letter was received from the State Department of Mental Diseases
enclosing copy of the resolve enacted by the Legislature providing
for an investigation relative to the disposal of sewage from the
proposed hospital in Valtham, Belmont, and Lexington, and asking
for a conference on the matter. The Chairman of the Board acknowledged
receipt of the letter and stated that he would be glad to arrange
a conference with the Department.
At 8 45 P. I.:uIr. Leslie J. Wood of Webb Street came before
the Board tr enter a complaint against the gravel plant owned by
Rupert H. Stevens. He has been informed that no permit was granted
to build this plant, and he understands, after reading the Zoning
Law, that a business established in a resident district cannot be
enlarged. The Board requested Mr. Wood to put his complaint in
writing and submit it to the Board
The meeting adjourned at 9.86 P.M.
