REGULAR MEETING, JULY 19, 1927.
A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at the
Selectmen' s Office at 8 00 P.M Messrs . Custance, Burnham,
Robertson, Ballard and Chamberlain were present. The Clerk and
the Supt. of Public Vorks were also present .
The records were approved after one correction was made.
Hearing was declared open upon the application of Rupert H.
Stevens of 30 Utica Street, for permission to install a larger
tank than he now has on hand, namely a 1,000 gallon tank making
the ztal 1,500 gallons
• Mr Lexlie Stood and William M. Jones, abutting owners of
property, came before the Board. Mr. Wood objected to the tank
being installed inasmuch as Mr. Stevens did not own any trucks
and that he sold the gasoline to the owners of the trucks that
arere hired by him He also felt that the gravel bank was moved
as far as the operations of same were considered too often and
he wondered what the limits would be as he felt the premises
were notin the business district under the zoning Lac
Mr. Jonesdesired to know the location of the tank as he
did not wish to have it too ne r his property.
The Board did not take any action on the permit.
Mr. Hart of the Hart nlotorcoach Company came before the Board
to endeavor to secure his permit to operate busses through the
Town.
• He explained that he had now received all the towns from
Boston to Albany route in Massachusetts but Townsend, Groton,
Arlington and Lexington He had also received enough towns to
secure his permit from the Public Utilities, but he desired to
receive permission from all the towns making it 100% before going
to the Public Utilities .
The Board voted to grant permission to the Hart Motorcoach
Company to operate their busses through the town.
Application for the approval of Board of Survey lay out of
Sautell Road, "'etherbee Road and Gardner Road on VTetherbee Park„
so called, was received from George V . Bean
Plan of lay out of streets ^ as submitted to the Planning Board.
Petition was received from residents of Ward Street complain-
ing of the condition of the premises of Frank Canisius owing to
the pigs and swill kept there.
Letter was also received from Yrs . Frank Canisius asking the
Board in regard to the income they would derive if her husband
could not raise pigs .
TheBoard decided to acknowledge receipt of the petition and
to notify the Health Inspeftor of both the letter and petition and
ask him to advise the Board what he felt was• the proper thing to do
under the circumstances .
The Board voted to notify the following pig owners to appear
before them on Tuesday evening next to sho•" cause why an order
of prohibition should not be issued to prohibit them from keeping
pigs .

The Board voted to appoint Edward F. Buttrick of 222 Mass.
Avenue, Lexington, as the third engineer of the Fire Department .
Mr. Burnham desired to go on record as favoring the appointment
of Leander ',rood.
rrevious to the meeting this evening the Board viewed the stakes
placed by the engineer on the lines of the proposed widening.
The Board then discussed the proposed widening . Some members ere
in favor of making a widening along Depot Park of 15 feet. Other
members felt that the avenue should be a uniform width and that
/ this would not be feasible. Changes were ordered in the location
of the stakes and the Board was to vier, the location again.
-Che Chairman reported a letter written to the State Department
of Public 6orks asking for definite information as to their
cooperation in the construction of Bedford Street to Meriam Street.
The State Aid pay roll amounting to $26. was signed for the
month of July.
Letter was received from the Edison Electric Ill. Co. informing
the Board that they had no choice in the matter of using the 60
c. p. lamp as the factories are not making this lamp and they had
to use the 80 c. p. lamp.
The Boaru instructed the Supt. of Public Works to have the
abutting owners on Massachusetts Avenue connected with the sewer this
year inasmuch as the rebuilding of Mass . Avenue is contemplated next
year
General matters were discussed. '
