HomeMy WebLinkAbout1927-06-2894 �.► ` REGULAR MEETING, JUNE 28, 1927. iL regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at the ' Selectmen's Office at 8:00 P.M. Messrs. Custance, Burnham, Ballard, Robertson and Chamberlain were present. The Clerk and the Supt. of Public Works were also present. The records i^?ere •approved. Hearing was held at 8:30 P.M. on the application of Leslie S. Spencer of 38 Woburn Street for permission to erect a wooden garage for the storage of one car. Mr. Spencer was present and stated that the building had been erected, he having received a permit from the Building Inxpeetor to do so. V.ben it was found that the building was within 50 feet of other buildings, a hearing was advertised. Michael Lanley, abutting owner of property, appeared at the hearing to object to the building. He stated that the building was not 7.1 feet from his property, and that he did not believe that it complied ixrith the building law. Lair. Spencer felt that the building was located 71 feet from his bounds as represented to him when he purchased the property. The Board informed the two parties present that they would have to get their engineers to straighten out the boundary line and when this is done they will then consider granting the permit for the garage. The hearing was therefor held open until such time as they could secure this information. ' The Board signed the committment for the Crater charges in the amount of N10,721.68, and the sewer charges in the amount of -4) 1_ 4 . Common Victuallers license eras granted to Ernest F. Perry of 123 Buckman Street, Everett, to operateathe Manor Crescent drug store. Letter TIas received from the Trustees of the Isaac Harris Cary Memorial Fund setting forth the changes they were to make in the original plans of the building. The Board replied to the Trustees that they approved of the changes. In regard to the request of Mabel N. Damon, Grant Street, for action from the Board of Health on the condition of their cellar fb caused by the drain, letter was directed to airs. Damon informing her that this matter was entirely up to her to settle with ter. Stack, and that the information given to her previously ;,as given only through the courtesy and personal interest of Mr. Ballard. Public carri4ge license was granted to Hans Sorenson to operate one Ford Sedan in the Town of Lexington. The Board took up the appliation of Peter Canessa of 200 ' lass. E!venue for a Second Dealers license in automobiles, end did not grant the license inasmuch as the property is not in the business district. The Board discussed the matter of widening Mass. Avenue from Grant Street to Fletcher Avenue back to the building line, and requested the Clerk to instruct the engineer to secure figures ' on the cost of this wJdaning. The Supt. of Public 4^.'orks wqs requested to secure figures on the cost of installing sewer in Locust Avenue and Plainfield Street. The Board took up the matter of settlement of damages of Llexander Parks on Bedford Street. He requested that he be aurarded the County a�,ward of ;'75.00 on North Hancock Street, and that he receive w300.00 for the taking of a large elm tree, cess pool, one apple tree (�,rhich bore four barrels of apples in 1926). and cement buttress which cost L:78.00 as entrance to garage. ne also requested` -damages of (500.00 for land taken on Bedford Street in addition to the State aviard of $40.00. The Board discussed the matter and decided to invite Lir. Parks to accept the following. N75.00 being the County arjard onNorth Hancock Street, and $500.00 for damages on Bedford Street in addition to the State ac,,,ard of w40.00. iMr. Parts ?-:as to be informed that if he accented this amount, the Board would ask the town to appropriate the money and ask him to release the property for highway purposes. In regard to the claim of John J. Brady it eras decided to lay this matter on the table, until such time as the Board would have a chance to view the premises, to decide iihat the damages were. The letter of Harriet I. Smith of Bedford Street, which was laid on the table at the last meeting, was again considered, and the Board voted to increase the amount of damages for the 700 sq. ft. of land taken from Mrs. Smith to 10 cents a foot or $70.00 In this connection the Board also took up the claim of Charles F. Smith, and voted to increase the award of damages for the 1225 sq. ft. taken to l0 cents a foot or X125.50. The Board decided to notify the Dept, of Public V.orks, after receiving report from the Planning. Board that they were not in favor of the maintenance of the Lexington Lumber Company's signs on the "iartin property, land in East Lexington, that they did not approve of the granting of these permits. rafter discussing the matter of parallel street to Mass. Ballard, the Board hec:rd the report of Mr. Cham- berlain that the Planning Board hrd gone over this matter quite thoroughly and they believe that the proper thing to do was to establish a building line. The Board, therefor, decided to approve of the proposition of the Planning Board to establish the building line.. The Chairman was reminded that a start could be made on the establishment of a proper procedure on the budget system and estimate sheets for next.year. M 98 The Board ap;)roved the application of Francis Ii. Klein., 50 Vine Street, Lexington, to peddle vegetables, fruit, eggs and fish. The meeting adjourned at 10:00 P.a.
