A ssecial meeting of the Board Of Selectmen was held at the
Selectmen' s Office at 7 30 P M. Messrs. CustLnce, Burnham,
Ballard, and Roberts:n were present. The Supt. of Public Works
and the Clerk were present also.
The records were approved with the exception of two corrections,
which were made .
It was decided to increase the charge for Common Victuallers,
Sunday Sales, and Innholders Licenses from a2 00 to : 5.00, same
deo be effective as of April 30, 1927 when the new licenses go into
effect.
It was called to the Boards attention that Mrs Sarah Bowman
VanNess of 52 Pleasant Street is in a bad mental condition She
continually calls the Police Department several times during the
night . She has therefor made herself a nuisance, and the Chairman
wLe requested to find out who her relatives were so that someone
could care for her.
In regard to the matter of building line on Mass . Avenue
Jfrom the Town Hall to Hancock Street, Mr. Ballard offered to make
a report on same in sixty days
The clerk wes requested to find out whether the American
Employers ' Insurance Company or any bonding company would issue
a bond guaranteeing cost of extension of water mains . It was also
suggested that when the Water Department give an estimate of the
cost of extending water mins and the amount of the guarantee to be
paid that this estimate be signed by the petitioner in duplicate,
one copy to be handed to the petitioner and the other to be retained
at the office. This will perhaps eliminate thn possibility of mis-
understanding. When the statement is then received at the office
it should be acknov.ledged with the reply that we understand they
will be liable for the terms of the statement
In reply to the letter of Frederick L. Emery relative to the
use by the Town of the l, nd of the Boston & Maine Railroad for the
storage of pipe for the Water Department, the Board replied that
although a contribution of 13,000. was made by citizens of the town
to the Boston & Maine Railroad for the purchase of this property
and removing the coal yard and President Tuttle of the Boston &
Maine R. R. replied to Mr. Emery under date of March 31, 1910 that
this land was net to be sold or leased for business purposes, but
would be retained for requirements of his company, the deed of the
property from Warren A. and Walter H Pierce of Arlington and Frank •
Peabody of Lexington did not contain any statement relative to the
use of the land The Board replied therefor to Mr Emery informing
him that inasmuch as this deed did not contain a restriction relative
to the use of the land that the town proposed to use it for the
storage of pipe until such time as a permanent location ±br- a
municipal yard can be secured
In regard to the letter of the Planning Board requesting a reply
to their request fer the services of the Town Counsel in establish-
ing a building line on Mass. Avenue in the vicinity or the Robbins
Cemetery, the Board voted to inquire o,. the Cemetery Commissioners as

to the status of the Robbinx Cemeter--
Mr. Ballard and Mr. Chamberlain have also to report on the
establishment of a building line in this section of Mass . Avenue
The Town En~;' neer vac recuested to lray out and furnish
statement of the ettimated cost to the abutters of laying out
Fletcher Avenue as a town way
For the consideration of the Board Mr . Ball rd offered the
suggestion of locating a municipal yard back of the Russell House,
from the cemetery property bordering the xailroad tracks to the
junction ol Woburn Street and Mass . Avenue.
Complaint having been received from Lawrence Ingram of 50 Reed
Street that the noise of the dogs owned by Benjamin Meauy of Bedford
Street is bothersome. It was decided to write Mr. Meady calling
his attention to Article 60 of the To-n By-La s
Letter was received from the Lexington Historical Society in
which they informed the Board o a vote of the Society to the
effect that the painting "The Dawn o- Liberty" by Sandham which
belongs to the Society but which is now in the Town Hall building
be removed to he iiemorial Building, now un,er construction, Et
the proper time. Tie Board acknowledged receipt of the letter .
In regard to the abatement of the betterment tax of the Town
of Arlington amounting to 0126 .24, it was decided to inform the
Tuwn Counsel that the Bard aoutu proceed in accoriance with his
advice
In reference to establishing block plan system bids were re-
ceived from Everett N . Montague of ?test Acton and Mor e and. Lickin-
son of Boston, the latter giving the statement tnat the total ex-
pense of establishing the system in the town ouli be from '"17,000

write J Henry Duffy, former T ; n engineer, requesting him for
advice to the method of establishing a block plan system and
asking him for specifications .
The matter of purchasing a Sunistrsnd Adding Machine for
the Assessing Deprrtmenj- wa , left with the Chsirman oi the Board.
