CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES of Commission meeting of November 28, 1972
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Dr Kassler,
at 8 00 p m , with Mesdames Frick and Rawls, Messrs Larson,
Williams and Mazerall (ex-officio) and Associate Members Dr
Friedman, Mrs Solomon and Mr. Smith present Others present
were Planning Board Member Eric Clarke and visitors Joan Crothers
and Iris Wheaton Also present Administrative Assistant David Hughes
Jerry Martin of the Engineering Department arrived to discuss
Sewer Projects , Future and Present
Kiln Brook Improvements will be subject of a Hatch Act Notice of
Intent , to be filed within the next few days Mr Martin described
project funding history and some of its problems and limitations
The program was described as a Maintenance program, plus construc-
tion of 600 feet of channel to alleviate water trapped by Route
128 and the Sanitary Landfill.
Wood Street Trunk Sewer. Engineering/Public Works Department
requests Commission to inspect the project and comment (with
copy to DNA) so that project can be completed Committee ap-
pointed by Dr Kassler (Ch DW, GL, FF)
Executive Session was declared from 8 35 p m until 9 20 to talk
with a landownerand to discuss aspects of negotiations with other
landowners
Soil Conservation Service has written the Commission that they
could not undertake a study of the Tophet Swamp until "Late
Winter, 1973" Exact meaning of this expression will be sought. (AEF)
Proposed Release announcing forthcoming 1973-75 program was dis-
tributed to those present, for editing and possible adoption at
next meeting (HMK)
Minutes of the November 14, 1972 Commission Meeting were approved
as amended.
Minutes of the November 21, 1972 Commission Meeting were approved
as submitted
Girl Scout Project for Whipple Hill , to be checked with Town Mana-
ger and Town Counsel before reply sent (DH)
Boston Edison Co Permit has been granted It was reported that
a 10-citizen suit may be filed to contest this DNR decision. It
was noted that 100-year storm level , as calculated several years
ago by Army Corps of Engineers, was reached following a recent
rainstorm.
Hartwell Park Draft letter to be sent Commission members for
consideration and revision, to be accepted next meeting (GL, MFR)
