HomeMy WebLinkAbout1927-03-0824 REGULAR MEETING, .MARCH 8, 1927. O A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at the , Selectmen's Office, at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Custance, Burnham, Ballard, Robertson, and Chamberlain were present. The Supt. of Public Works and the Clerk were also present. The records of last meeting were approved. Mr. Theodore A. Custance and "Lr..Francis Chamberlain, the newly elected members of the Board were sworn :to the faithful performance of their duties by the Assistant Town Clerk. In regard to the designation of departments to each member of the Board, it was decided to have each member go over the same during week before the designations were made at the next meeting on Tuesday evening. - Mr. Thomas Kelly came before the Board and inquired whether or not the Town carried liability insurance on the highways and sidewalks. He was informed that the Town did not carry this form of insurance. He stated that his Doy fell on the sidewalk adjacent to the Cary Memorial Library property and was injured. He was taken to Dr. Harrington's office by Police Officer O'Leary and several stitches were taken in his hand. He stated that he felt if the Town had insurance they would take care of the bill for medical care. The Board informed ter. Kelly that they would like to receive , a statement of the details of the accident from him in writing, and would then pass the same over to the Town Counsel to see whether they were liable or not. Mr. Kelly agreed to send in detailed state- ment of the accident. Augustine Monaghan and John F. McKearney came before the Board to see if they could possibly get the extension of' a water main on Grant Street. They were requested to talk the matter over with Mr. Albert A. Ross, Supt. of the Water Dept., to see what might be done in regard to this extension. No provision has been made for an appropriation for this extension in 1927. Mr. John F. Tibbetts, Building Inspector, came before the Board in regard to the enforcement of the Zoning Law on roadside stands. He stated that he had received an opinion from the Town Counsel that he sgould enforce the Zoning Law by refusing to allow the roadside stands to do business. He stated that parties operating the stands selling vegetables raised on their own premises also sold products from other places, and unless the sections were business sections, he did not believe this should be done. The Board informed Mr. Tibbetts that unless instructions were received from them they did not believe that it was dis duty to decide whether or not roadside stands should be operated. The Board instructed the Clerk to secure a list of roadside stands in the town which operated last season. ' Special Police commission was signed for Edward I. Hart. In regard to the appointment of the Board of Assessors, the Board consulted the present Board of Assessors, who were in session, relative to the advisability of having three or five members. The recommendation of the Board was that three members be tried for at least one year. The Board of Selectmen therefor adopted this recom- mendation, and decided to have the three present members, namely: Walter G. Black, Eugene G. Kraetzer, and Charles E. Ferguson to serve as Assessors. It was decided to advertise the application of Lloyd H. Chase for permission to install a gasoline pump on his premises on Middle Street. It was decided to hold a meeting with the committee on the new town hall on Tuesday evening at 8 P.M. The Supt. of Public Works reported that two new water connec- tions must be made on Mass. Afenue near number 99 and that the new street must be dug up at this point. Requisition to the State Civil Service Department was signed by the Chairman for an additional patrolman in the Police Department. The meeting adjourned at 9:05 P.M.
