REGULAR MEETING, February 1, 1927.
A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at the
Selectmen's office at 8:00 P.M. Messrs. Custance, Burnham, Miles,
and _Robertson were present. The Supt. of Public Works and the Clerk
were also present.
It was voted to reappoint Charles F. Pierce as Town Accountant
for the term of three years from January 23, 1927.
The junk application of Harry Kritzman of 52 Poplar Street, Boston,
was considered by the Board again. The Chief of PO-Hce informed the
Board that Mr. Kritzman was a reliable person, but the Board after con-
sidering the application voted not to grant the same.
Russell I. Prentiss came before the Board presenting them with
copy of Senate bill ##125 the same being a bill in regard to the col-
lection of garbage.
The Board felt that this bill should be passed if possible, and
decided to request Senator Ubseph R. Cotton and Representative George E.
Briggs to represent the Town in favor of this bill. Hearing was to be
heldat Room 446 State House, on Monday February 7, 1927, at 10:30 A. M.
Russell I. Prentiss presented a set of Milk regulations which he
felt should be made a part of the Board of Health Regulations instead
of the present regulations inasmuch as some of the old regulations are
out of date.Mr. Miles was requested to go over the same and advise
the Board as to whether they should be accepted or not.
Letter was received from the Dept. of rublic Works, Div. of Highways,
in which they informed the Board of the awards of damages to owners of
property on Bedford Street where the State highway was constructed last
summer. The total damages amount to $2126.00.
Letter was received from the State Dept. of Public -Works enclosing
the report of that department relative to the establishment of state
highway and reservation along certain sections of the British Trail in
Lexington and Concord as a Revolutionary War memorial, and stating that
the Commissioners were prepared to lay out this state highway 100 feet
in width provided the towns of Lexington and Lincoln would agree to
indemnify the Commonwealth against -all claims for land, grade and
drainage damages.
The Board decided to inform the State Dept. that they were unwilling
at this time to spend any money on this project this year. -
Mr. Scamman reported it would cert $48,000 for 2,000 ft. of this road in
Lexington.
The Board deoldelito abate the sewer assessment on an area of
15,630 sq. ft. amounting to $176.27 on the property of James P. Munroe
at al Trustees located on Mass. Avenue.
1 Letter was received from the National Education Association in which
they thanked the Board for allowing them the use of the State flags for
Educational Week at Dallas, Texas.
The Board appointed the April 19th Committee which is as follows:
Capt. William F. Young, Charles M. Blake, Edward L. Child.
In regard to the gasoline tank of Max Berman which he: reported CR7t
to the Board had to be located ten feet from his garage and which he
requested permission to place under the sidewalk, the Board found from '
the State authorities that it was not customary to grant permission to '
locate tanks under the sidewalk, and the Board therefor, decided to
notify Mr. Berman that they would not allow him to locate a gasoline
tank under thesidewalk at No. 1 Mass.. Avenue.
The Board discussed the subject of sufficient services in the
Engineering Department. It was suggested that it might be possible to
secure an appropriation of $1500 for work on the Block Plan. It -this
way much more advancement could be made upon this plan rather than having
the regular department endeavor to do any work upon the same. It was also
felt that an additional man was needed in the department right away. It
was decided to ask Mr. Saben and -Mr. Kendall to advise us where we can find
a man of the type needed, and if they have anyone they can recommend.
It was decided to request Mr. Everett N. Montague to come before the
Board to discuss the matter of work on the Block Plan. `
