REGULAR MEETING, December 7, 1926. '=
A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at the P-11
tielectmen s Office at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Custance, Miles, and
Burnham, were present. The Supt. of Public Works and the Clerk
were also present.
The records of last meeting were read and approved.
Hearing was declared open upon the application of Caroline B.
burns of 953 Winthrop Avenue, Beachnont, for permission to install
two 1,000 gallon gasoline tanks at the corner of Middle and Bridge
Streets at 8:00 F.M.
No persons appeared for or against the application, and it was
voted not to grant the permit.
Mr. Neil McIntosh came before the Board in reference to his
request for extension of water pipe in the Bair Oaks property and on
Spring and Shade Streets. He urged the Board to recommend to the
Town the extension of these mains. The Board informed him that the
cost of this extension of 9300 feet is approximately $28,000.
Mr. McIntosh felt that the increased valuation would more than offset
the expenditure of this amount.
Notice was received from the Boston Chamber of Commerce of a
Civic Luncheon on Wednesday, December 8, 1926 at 12:30 P.M. at which
time William B. Munro, Professor of Government at Harvard University,
would give a talk on "Our Increasingly Expensive Government - Will
It Ever Stop?", and inviting the Selectmen to attend.
Invitation was also received from the Town Protective Committee
of 3 Joy Street, Boston, to a luncheon conference at the Twentieth
Century Club, December 8, 1926 at 1:00 P.M. at which time Mr. Custynce,
of the Board of Selectmen, was to speak.
The Chairman informed the meeting that he had instructed the Town
Treasurer to advertise for bids on loan of $100,000. dated December 16,
1926 and payable June 16, 1927, bids to be opened December 14, 1926.
Letter was received from the Metropolitan District Commission in
which they stated that they would be glad to discuss the matter of
engineering services to the Town for sewer, water, and park systems.
The Clerk was instructed to secure bids for the printing of the
Town Report for the year 1926.
Class I Agents( license was granted to John A. Svedlund to do
business at 35 Bedford Street, Minute Man garage.
Letter was( received from Town Counsel advising the Board of the
decision on the Ballard piggery case. He advised the Board that
Ernest B. Ballard was found not guilty, and that the ground upon
which the 4ourt acted in substance was that the piggery regulations
are valid only under General Laws, Chapter 111, Section 143, and that
the only method of procedure is by means of an order of prohibition
as had been taken in the case of Miskell.
