HomeMy WebLinkAbout1925-10-27 266 a� T ,Z'ETINC, OCTOBER 27,1925 A regular meet'pg of the board of Selectmen was held in the Selectmen' s Room, Town Hall, Lexington, on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1925, at 8 7 M The following members of the oard were present, Iessrs. Hutchinson, Moulton, Miles, Uustance and Purnham The Supt. of Public forks and Clerk were present Hearing was held upon the petition of the `,'dison Elec Ill. Co. for permission to place 44 Poles on Lowell Street for the purpose Of installing street lights . No persons appeared to object and it was voted to grant permission. Application for a gasoline filling station was received from Luigi ± errazzano of 15 'althorn St, Lexington to sell 1000 gallons of gasoline at his premises. The Board refused the application and decided not to hold a hearing on the same. Letters were received from Flynn and Flynn, Attorneys of .altham, in which they claim wages for George ' 'biting, Thomas ``biting and .hilip A. belles, former employees of the Fire Department. The letters were handed to Town Counsel, Sydney A. Wrightington for his attention. License to sell Denatured Alcohol was granted to the Standard Oil Co. of 169 lass . Avenue Complaint against Clarence L.acPhee of Oak Street was made by Edward J. Perkins of 75 Layette St Cambriiite, °ass. I-Ie claimed that horses ,°fere rept in vhat was supposed to he a garage and that the stench ,vas such that it injured his chance to build or sell his prone'ty. The Supt . of ublic orks ✓✓as requested to look into the matter. The question of :✓' ether or not a Common Victualler' s License should be granted to Hiram "I l"lite to do business at 445 Lass. avenue, the Lunch Cart, was brought up. Statements of character were made and the Board decided to leave it to the judgment of ._r. Custance to decided whet'• er or not the license should be granted after investigation J Henry Duffy, former Town Engineer, nd member of the Planning '3oard came before the 'Toard to consider the advis- ability of securing a special ,^t of the L� islature empowering the no rd of ,>electmen of Le..- ngton to ' , _ 267 easements, assess betterments, aad otherwse proceed in matters involved in imnroving hrool<.s and general dra' .age, similar in respect to the cts of the towns of Belmont, Milton and akefield. iter talking the matter over Jith the Board and Tr. "fright- ington, Town Counsel, the Board left it in the hancs of rr. Duffy to consult -ith the Town Counsel and to draw up something to present to the Legisl ture so thA tle Board may lave more com- plete authority at the present time. The matter of naming streets as also brought up and r iYaffy vas requested to get together with 1;ir. Seaman and Mr. Greeley to see what might be done in the matter. It was decided to request the Planning Hoard to make a study of the situation of a connecting street or an extension of iLreadia venue to connect with Lowell Street Mr. Duffy also brought before the Loard the matter of increasing the assessment for sewer. He felt that the ct should be amended so that the cost would be at least v1. 00 per running foot instead of 50V at the present . The matter was considered but no definite action taken. The Supt . of Public corks reported that illiam ;-indrews a former resident of 1ighland avenue desired to know whether or not he cruld recover the amount of money spent for a water pipe in Highland Avenue. The question of reserv_ng a echool house lot on 'althorn Street or in the vicinity of lien Street was talked over with Lr.
