MEETING, OCTOBER 1351925 '
A meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held in the
Selectmen's Room, Town Hall, Lexington, on Tuesday, October 13,
1925, at 8 P.M. The following members of the Board were present,
Messrs. Hutchinson, Burnham, Custance, Miles and-loulton. The
Supt, of Public Works and Ass't Clerk were also present.
Dr. W. L. Barnes, who owns property on Fletcher Avenue,
came before the Board in regard to covering over that part of
Vine Brook which runs through his property and putting in a
pipe for the wator to run through. He wanted to put in a 24 inch
pipe which he thought sufficient. He was informed by the hoard
that 24 inch pipe would by no means be sufficient. They informed
him that they would have the engineer look at the brook and inform
him what size should be placed in the brook. Dr. Barnes objected
to the expense of putting in a larger pipe, but the Board felt
he should take the advice of the engineering department.
Hearing was opened upon application of Pichette and Ahern
for approval of plans of Joseph Goad in East Lexington.
Both ?3r. Ahern and Mr. Pichette were present. '"lord was
received from the Planning Board that they (%ranted to study
further the matter of an entrance across this property to the
meadow. As Mr. Pichette was very anxious to get the work started
on the road and the Board saw no objections to the lays ut of the
road he had planned they tentatively approvgii;he plan and
requested the Planning Board to make a report on Tuesday next
when the Board would hold a special meeting to,apprcve the plan.
Mr. Fred C. Austin of the Salvation Army came before the
Board to request permission to hold a Tag Day on Oct. 24th.
The Board had no objection and voted to grant permission.
Samuel B. Rome appeared before the Board asking permission
for a Sunday Sales License at 21 Mass. Avenue, East Lexington,
The Board requested references from 17,11r. Rome and voted that upon
investigation if references proved -good they would grant the
license.
Mr. John C. Phelps of 42 Percy Road, came before the
Board in reference to his application for permission to erect a
building to be used for a sales and service station on the vacant
land between the Lexington Lumber Co. prope-ty and the Stucko
house on Bedford Street.
Considerable objection from the neighbors was made but
owing to the fact that the property is located in the business
section according; to the Zoning Laws the Board felt that it
could not be objectionable if a building of the type of which
plans were submitted to the Board was erected.
After considering the matter and scanning the plans
Presented by i,ir. Phelps the Board voted to grant a permit to
Mr. Phelps to erect the building on Bedford Street.

Application of:irs. Charles H. Sefton of Fairview Avenue,
for permission to board two infants was approved by the Board,
- Letter was received from the Clerk of the Planning Board
stating that they desired to have 1,r. J. Henry Duffy, member of
the. Planning Board take up with the Board the matter of sectring
a special Act of the Legislature empowering the Selectmen to
make takings, secure easements, assess betterments, and proceed
in matters involved in improving brooks and general drainage.
The Board replied that they would be glad to have 1.1r. Duffy
talk vrith them on the matter .
The Supt. of Public "forks called attention to the fact
that Mr. Prescott of Oakmount Circle desired to have the street
accepted.
The Clerk was directed to secure the necessary data from
the Engineers to have papers drawn up for this acceptance.
Reports having been made to the Board that the 1.1iddlesex
& Boston St. Hwy Co. busses drive too fast through the centre
of the town, and that the busses are very often over -crowded,
it was decided to notify the company of these complaints and
request an investigation.
Hearing was held upon the application of Edward Carlson of
130 Fottler Avenue, for permission to erect a garage on his
premises.
No persons appeared to object and it was voted to grant
the license.

Application was received from William A. Granfield for an
underground gasoline tank at the corner of Spring and diddle Sts.
The Board voted not to grant a hearing on this application.

Voted that the Board recornend the granting of the site on
' the plot of land Unown as Depot Square, for the erection of a
monument to be given to the town by 1,1r. H. H. Kitson and others.

It having been
found that the Town
still owns a lot of
land on Concord Avenue
which the Selectmen
formerly used as
were authorized to
a school house lot and
sell, the Board decided
to request an offer
of $600 for the lot
which contains 151650
square feet.
