A regular meetitng of the Board of Selectmen was held
in the Selectmen's Room, Town Ball, Lexington, on 'Tuesday,
November 11, 1924 at 8:00 P. L.. The following members of the
Board were present: Kerere. Burnham, Custance, Miles and
Hutchinson. The Ase't Town Clerk was also present.

on Bedford Street was granted,
Notice of hearing at the State House on public
ownership of the Boston Elevated Railway Co. was received.
The Supt. of Public Works was requested to attend the hearing,
Releases of osanere along Bedford Street, Forest St.
Clarke St. valtham Street and 1�aes. .%venue were received
from the Planning Board with the request that the Board of
Selectmen start action on the same an soon as pos-eible.
The Board felt that Couneel'e.advice wa,e needed on a
matter so important as this and decided to hold the same up
until a Town uounrel was appointed.
The appoint,rent of a Town Counsel was considered and
!Cr. Burnham was requested to ask Sydney R. Wri g'-.tington
of Bennington Road. Lexington, if he would accept the
position.
Letter was received from Lar. L. T. Ingram of Reed St,
North Lexington, in which he explained -that the BoEton &
Maine RR. Co. were to discontinue eellimg tickets at the
North Lexington etation and perrone in that section would
have to obtain their tickets at the North Statigp. He
suggested that:. the station agent at Lexington be allowed to
Bell tickets for North Lexington so that passengers could
step off and buy their tickets while the train rtopr at
Lexington.
The Board requested the z>upt. of Public iM1orke to
take the matter up with the Boston 8- Iwaine authorities.
The letter from Edward C. Stone, President of the
Pageant association of 1925, asking the Board for the use
of the Parker Field for the production of the Pageant in
June, 1925. 'They agreed to furnish all lights and police
protection, attendants, etc.
The 13ozrd replied to their letter giving them
permiesiun to use the Field in accordance with their eug_
genion.
Lyon Carter of 39 Middle Street came before the
Board in regard to the case of hie friend who had been
arrested by Officer Leary for alleged drunkenerp. When the

Mr. Uarter prevented the Board with a stenographic copy of
the trial and wished that the Board might read same through
to form their own opinion of the case. Mr. Carter read sections
which showed that officer Leary contradicted his own statements.
After hearing the case the board felt that it was necessary
to reprimandtha officer and decided to call the Chief of Police
together with Officer Leary before the Board on Tuesday evening,
November 25, 1924
Ray Edgar, of i+ood Street, who is building a houee on Mass-
achusetts Avenue nearly opposite the corner of Maple Street,
axld next to the house of one Glidden, came before the Board in
regard to the piazza of his house which he started to build and
which did not come tithin the building law. The law stated that
that no building can be built hearer than 72 feet to the adjoin-
ing line and he built hie piazza so that 1t came within four
feet of the adjoining lot line. ne felt t'llat a -Iazza tap not
considered an outside wall and for that reason could be extended
any distanae.
The Board consulted Roger Greeley, who was a member of the
Committee who originally drew up the building Laws, as to his
opinion, and he stated that he understood the law to mean any
exterior finish of a building to be the exterior wall and that
it should be 7i feet from the adjoining lot line.
Mr, Edgar was therefore informed that he should. remove his
piazza so that it would not be any nearer that 72feet.
The 6upt. of Public Works asked the Board's opinion on
whether or not they, desired to print the assessors valuation
lint in the Town Report this year.
The Board felt that it should be printed in the Town Report
and authorized the Supt. to have the aseessory get the came
ready. .
