VETERANS DAY Mrs. Litchfield reviewed the list of units which had
accepted our invitation to participate in the October 28 parade and
ceremonies, Mrs McGonagle said that the speaker of the day will
come from the Regional Office of the Veterans Administration in Bos-
ton; his name should be available by Tuesday, October 15. Mr. Gaughan
noted that Chief Marshal Charles Thomann, Commander of Post #3007,
VFW, had been asked verbally; a letter is in order, requesting that
Commander Thomann be responsible [or appointing his Aides Final de,-
,a;.l.s regarding arrangements will be complete before the meeting of
October 17.
There was agreement that special note would be taken during, both
parade assembly and the parade itself of supervision and horsemanship
displayed by the 4H horse club. A decision regarding possible par-
ticipation of horses in both morning and afeernoon iatriots Day
parades was postponed, pending this review
PATRIOTS DAY Just prior to the start of the meeting, Chief Marshal
Broderick spoke with Chairman Barnes and other TCC members informally.
He noted that response from marching units was e cellont and noted the
method by which he is tabulating replies
Chmn. Barnes summarized a report of an evaluation of Concord s
communications plans prepared by an Army Reserve Team of public af-
fairs consultants some weeks ago. In addition, he noted that, al.--
though Mr. Camp was not present at this meeting, the TCC had asked
for his assistance in planning a detailed breakdown of work to be
done by the committee. The chairman read a prelimjnari anal„zsis q1
reseonsibilities for the morning parade which he had prepared and
noted that all events would need a similar detailed analysis
Mr. Brenchick reported on the Float fl ksholt, saying that response
had been excellent; that there had been a request ger a follow-up
session later this winter; and,, if all who participated in the workshop
actually entered floats the usual Worthen Road assembly area might
not prove adequate. Tentative suggestions for alternate arrangements
were considered briefly; however, until the actual number and size of
floats is Known more definitely, no decisions were reached.
Mr Brenchick also' noted that Mr. Cronin of the Chamber of Com-
merce had been at the meeting, and had announced that cash prizes,
rather than trophies, would be awarded in the three competitions for
local entries Rules regarding size of floats and size of lettering
were stressed to all in attendance. Mr B: enchi.ck also reported the
gift of two copies of a parade "how-to-do-it" book by Mr. Bogk for
use by the committee.
OTHER BUSINESS Mrs Litchfield has had another statement from the
Merrifield Bus Co. of Athol
Both the TCC Annual Report and a budget estimate for 1975.4976
need to be prepared.
Respectfully subm- tted,
Ruth Mitchell, Recording Secretary QC
