TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
August 8, 197 '
PRESENT Chmn. Barnes Mr, Gaughan Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Mitchell,
Mr Flynn, Mr. Brenchick
MINUTES The minutes of June 27, July 11,. and July 25, 1974, were
approved. Chmn. Barnes noted that he had not invited the Chief Marshal
and Chief of Staff to be present on August 8.
CORRESPONDENCE: Mrs Litchfield has written to tilt: E.U. Merrifield. Bun
Co. of Athol to report receipt of their bill. No other action on this
matter has been taken. She also reported that, for the first time in
many years, her records of committee expenses did not agree with the
statement sent to her by the Comptroller's Office., and will begin a
correlation to ascertain the discrepancy.
The committee reviewed the letters of invitation to military worts
which were sent on March 6, 1973.Vice-chairman Gaughan then read a
draft of a letter of invitation to the governors of the other ori.g_ na:!
colonies which he had prepared. The committee gave preliminary ap-
proval to the letter; Mr. Gaughan will prepare a final draft which
will be sent to all members prior to the joint TCC LBC meeting now
scheduled for Wednesday, August 28 and the committee agreed to ask
for discussion and preparation of a final draft at that time.
COMMUNICATIONS Mr. . Flynn reporned that it would be possible to
arrange for the installation of a direct Lexington-Concord telephone
line for Patriots Day, 1975. Chmn. Barnes noted that he was not
aware of any active sub•'-committees of the LBC working on communications.
He also revieyed the public address arrangements presently used at
various events by the TCC after Mr. Flynn questioned their adequacy.
AFTERNOON PARADE: Mr. Brenchick reported that he has written to
local organizations which might be interested in float suonsiorship,
and will have several articles in the Minute Main to announce that
Mr. Bogk will be holding a float workshop on. Sunday, September 29
Mrs. Mitchell suggested sending notice of this to the High School
for insertion in their announcements
A brief review of units which may logically be expected to march
led the committee to feel that there would probably be at least five
divisions, perhaps more Committee members may wish to see the :Drum
Corps competitions scheduled for August 10, in Lowell ; and August 13,
at BC Stadium.
Respectfully submitted,
Ruth Mitchell, Recording Secretary.
