vTOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE _- -
July_25_,__19-7-4-- --- -------
PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mr. Gaughan, Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs. McGonagle,
Mr. Fitzgerald, Mr. Flynn, Mrs. Mitchell. Mr. Brenchick
arrived at the close of the meeting.
CORRESPONDENCE
A letter of thanks for April 19th hospitality from General and
Mrs. Skantze which was received shortly thereafter.
A letter of inquiry from Ruth E. Johnston of the Police Benevee-
lent Assn. of Bolton, MAss. regarding bands which participated in the
afternoon parade It was noted that Sgt. Major Cannizaro of the Glous-
ter ROTC had also inquired about addresses at which he might reach some
of our participants. Mrs. Litchfield will reply to both inquiries.
A bill in the amount of $342.60 from the E.H.MMrrifield Bus Co. of
Athol for transportation of the Athol High School band to Lexington and
Arlington on April 15th. The bill was dated July 1, 1974 but did not
reach Lexington until July 9. The TCC discussed problems of payment,
including the tardy billing, inclusion of charges which might properly
fall to Arlington, the fact that the fiscallyear ended June 30, 1974,
the fact that there are special financial arrangements voted for the
Bicentennial year, and, finally, the feeling- that although it would be
LL —the. intent of- the Committee to hong our -obligation, :it would- be necessary
__-> to discuss the matter with others to ascertain whether it would be pos-
sible to do so and, if so, in what manner. Mrs. Litchfield will write
to report receipt of the bill and will inform the company that the TCC
is looking into avenues by which payment may be made.
PATRIOTS DAY - 1975
Chmn. Barnes reported that Mr. Rooney has accepted the appointment
as Chief of -Staff for the afternoon. Both Mr. Broderick and Mr. Rooney
will be invited to attend the next committee meeting, scheduled for
August 8.
It was agreed that Mrs. Litchfield should now write to those 26
units previously invited to participate in the afternoon parade with a
statement to the general effect that the TCC, not having heard other-
wise, was assuming that it was the intent of these groups to accept the
invitation and that, if this were not the case, would like to be notified.
It was noted that acceptance has been given by the 590th AirForce Band.
The LBC vote to delete a post-parade reception was mentioned. Mrs.
Mitchell, who was out of town at the time of the June joint meeting, ad-
ded her concern to that which was noted in the LBC minutes as having been
expressed by Mr. Gaughan, saying that those Lexington individuals who
serve as parade staff and who are responsible for helping bring this
commemoration to the Town ought to be thanked in some way and, since in
all likelihood, they would be on duty during lunchtime, some kind of
food service seemed to be most appropriate.
At the August 8 meeting, the committee will consider drafts of a
letter of invitation to the governors of the other original colonies
which will be prepared by Mr. Gaughan, Mrs. McGonagle, and Mrs. Mitchell.
Respectfully submitted,
Ruth Mitchell, Recording Secretary
