January 17, 1974, should read that the Minute Men were asked to supply Paul Revere in 1975,, not 19740 CORRESPOJDENCE Letters have been recieved from the following in response to the invitation to participate in the Patriots Day,1974 afternoon parade 1st US Naval District, Boston --- because o#' the phase out of operations here, no marchers will be available„ 1st USCG District, Boston a 4 man color guard may be available 18th US Army Command, Ft. Devens -- requested the submission of theeusualrrequest form; final response will coMethuen HS Cadet Corps and Rangerettes will participate Mrs. Litchfield also reported that she had been contacted by Dot Hall, manager of the 60 piece band sponsored by American Legion Post #156 of Waltham. This widely traveled group would request a donation of 0350 to come The committee agreed that Mrs Litchfield will ask that the date be held for us with the understanding that our parade roster, is now being organized add we are unable to give a more definite response at this time PATRIOTS DAY The committee reviewed suggestions made last week for parade theme. Mrs. Litchfield noted that the first Massachusetts official Patriots Day holiday was observed in 1894; the theme, of that celebration was Liberty and Union. After some discussion, it was MOVED by Mr. Fitzgerald and seconded by M.rs.Mitchell that the 1974. theme be Liberty, Unity, Responsibility. VOTED unanimously Capt. James J. Leahy, USER, has accepted the invitation to be Chief Marshal. The committee agreed to recommend to him that Joseph Rooney, James Broderick, Neil Cronin and Edward Turner be asked to serve as staff; one of these gentlemen should be Chief of Staff.. William Dailey was suggested for consideration as Marshal for the military division; the Minute Men and the fire department traditionally provide marshals for two parade divisions from their own membership. Captain Leahy will meet with the TCC on January 31. Mr. Brenchick suggested that parade timing and float regulations be discussed at that time. He will review float regulations used last year in preparation for discussion. The committee agreed to contact Town Manager O'Connell to request a meeting with him, Chief Corr, Chief Spellman, and others whom he JIXN 2 91914 Ton Celebrations Committee January 24, 1974 — page 2 feels should be present at a joint discussion of plans for 1974.This meeting should be held on February 7. The committee aveed to schedule a genera) meeting for parade parti— cipants for February l40 This meeting will include flaat participants and Mr. Bogle will be invited to attend. Mr. Brenchick will coordinate publicity with Mrs. McGonagle, and Mrs. Litchfield will also assist in inviting organizations to be represented at this time. Parade organization at the High School was discussed. All agreed that this was the best possible area for assembling. Mr. Lord will contact the head custodian to make necessary arrangement,; he will also contact class advisors to ascertain if studente wish to operate one or more concession stands for use by parade participants. BICENTENNIAL Chmn, Barnes has written to Chmn. Howard of the LBC asking that the TCC be given express approval to seek participation by representatives of the original colonies He also noted that there had been a response from the Office of the President w it will be early 1975 before any definite plans can be considered.
