HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-08-26-TOUR2-min Town of Lexington Tourism Committee Minutes of the Meeting of August 26, 2024 Hybrid Parker Room Town Hall and Zoom 3:30 pm PRESENT: Marsha Baker, Margaret Coppe (Chair), Bebe Fallick, Ting Fang, Pam Fowler, Marie-Tristan Rago, Elsie Xu Absent: Suzie Barry, Gardy Desrouleaux, Melissa Robbins, Fred Johnson, Liaison Center Committee Staff Present: Jay Abdella, Ariel Chin Guest: Barry Cunha 250th Commission Monument Subcommittee Margaret called the meeting to order at 3:34 pm. She read the authorization for remote meetings. A quorum was present. Vote to call meeting to order: Marsha Baker, Aye; Margaret Coppe, Aye, Bebe Fallick, Aye; Ting Fang, Aye; Pam Fowler, Aye; Marie-Tristan Rago, Aye; Elsie Xu, Aye 250th Monument This item was taken up early as Barry Cunha and Bebe Fallick had to leave for a meeting of the 250th Commission. Lengthy discussion: • Tourism Committee has not been asked for recommendation; 250th has brought their preferred plan to the committee as a courtesy • Plan needs to go the Historical District Committee for approval • Select Board has final approval • The Town Manager has approved • The Select Board has asked for some changes in original plan • The Lafayette sign is remaining (was not shown on plans) • No trees being cut on Clarke Street • DPW will maintain plantings in future 1 • Committee was split on approval, some did not like it at all, some did like it, some liked the overall plan but would like to make sure the poles were not as bright as represented in the plan (Select Board had similar reservations) Economic Development Report Ariel Chin Jay Abdella • People counter July 2024 up 7% over 2023 • Visitor's Center Sales for July 2024 up 1 % over 2023 • Battle Green Tours July up 20% over 2023 • Liberty Ride Trolley July fully booked • Fall Initiatives/Plans: RFI for Building Facades; murals on rear of Mass Ave buildings facing bike path Minutes: Marsha Baker moved, and Marie Tristan-Rago seconded, approval of the July 9, 2024 minutes. Will get back to committee with options. Goals Discussion postponed to next meeting as Fred Johnson was absent and he has been working with the group. Lex 250 Report Beebe reported from the 250th Committee: • Parker's Prelude September 21, 2024 (rescheduled) Rain Site High School • Drone Show October 20, 2024 • Witness House Project • Pop up tents at outdoor event • Horse Project • Fund raising 2 Updates and Miscellaneous • Lexington Historical Society: The Depot will be closed October-March for renovations. • Group and non-group admissions to historic houses up for a total of 11% • Summer camp for children had 15 participants, up from last year • Fundraising for Depot is successful and continues • Fundraiser event: Return to Journey's End • Fundraiser: Murder Mystery at Buckman Tavern October 25, 2024 • After Midnight with the Clarks original play • LexSeeHer Spinning Event August 31, 2024 • Lafayette Visit Event September 2, 2024 • Living History with Lexington Historical Society September 28, 2024 Adjournment 5:36 PM Marsha made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Pam seconded the motion.
