HomeMy WebLinkAbout1924-05-27MEFTING, MAY 27, 1924. ' A regular meeting of the Board of Selectrpn was held in the Selectmen's Room, Town Hall, Lexington, on Tuesday, May 27,. 1924, at 8 P. M. The following members of the Board were present; namely, Messrs. Burnham, Moulton, Custance, Hutchinson and Miles, The Ass t Town Clerk was also,present. Hearing was declared open on application of Fred T. Boyd of Cedar Street, for. permission to erect a one car garage on his premises, No persons a.ppeared.to object and it was therefore voted to grant the license, Hearing was declared open upon petition of James A. Bean, of Parker Street for permission to maintain a public garage at his premises. Several of the re3idents in the vicinity complained that their insurance rates have been increased on account of the fire hazard caused "by Mr. Bean's garage not being fire proof. They all objected strenously to the garage walls being made fire proof if the ceiling was not to be. The Board decided to take the matter up with the State Fire Marshall so that he could advise just what should be done to make this building comply with the law. Hearing was declared open upon the petition of Warren S. Griswold ' for approval of plsns of Section 4 Park Heights, Mr. Griswold and his Engineer and Attorney Joseph G. Brier of Boston, appeared for the petition, Several of the land owners in the vicinity appeared as interested parties. Mr. Steckroski was the principal objector. lie did not see why the lines of street laid out over his property should be laid out so they would take so much land. It was explained to Mr. Steckroski that the lay out of street over his land might never come to pass, but he felt that he should now have protection against the future. It was decided to postpone this hearing until next Tuesday even- ing and ask the Planning Board to be present so that some definite agreement might be had that would please all concerned, Innholder' s License was granted to George S. MacAlpine to operate Wildacre Inn, Percy Road. Letter was received from Willard C. Hill of Elmer A. Lord X Co. in regard to placing $170,130 additional insurance on Town of Lexing- ton blanket form. He stated that he was binding this amount and would like to know the permanent amount he would receive. The Board did not reply to Mr. Hill's letter as they felt he understood the matter would be held in abeyance until the town meeting. 'Daniel J. O'Connell came before the Board to see if they had any objections to his tearing out the walls of the old Valentine block next to the town hall and putting ix trick walls. He stated that the work would be done in accordance with the Building Laws and that it would improve the section a great deal. The Board saw no objection as long se the work was to be done in accordance with the Building Law. 180 Supt. of Public Works reported that Joseph CRmpbell of Parker Street wanted to build a cesspool on his property on Parker Street, but the Supt. felt it should not be done as the property was along the line of the Aver. R Mr. Scamman reported that he had the street numbers for the streets in the section of Ames Avenue that were requested by Francis Toys et al. "fir. Moulton reported that application for aid was received from Mrs. Frank E. Williams of Tarbel Avenue, East Lexington. After considering the merits of the case it was decided to in- form Bars. Williams that the Board felt if her daughter in law worked and she stayed home tsking care of the children, that they would have sufficient income together with what her two sons earned, to live without aid from tha town.
