A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held in the
Selectmen's Room, Town Hall, Lexington, on Tuesday, May 13, 1924, at
8 P. M, The following members of the Board were present; namely,
Messrs. Burnham, Moulton, Custance, Hutchinson and Miles, The Asa't
Town Clerk end. Town Counsel were also present.
William G. Murphy of 25 Maas. Ave. came before the Board relative
to making over his garage into a public garage. He was informed that
he would have to make application for same and that a hearing would
have to be held on same,
Mrs. Trani of Reed St. Arlington Heights, came before the Board
in regard to the barn at Crescent Hill Avenue which was complained of,
as a fire trap. Mrs. Trani stated that she expected to have the barn
fixed as soon as possible. The Board referred the matter to the Build-
ing Inspector.
Frederick Lundergan of 9 Sylvia St. came again before the Board in
regard to securing a permit to build a two flet house at 15 �jlvia
Street.
Frederick L. Emery, Chairman of the Planning Board, came before
the Board and stated that hearings were held and no one in the section
of Sylvia Street appeared to voice any objections to the Committee on
Zoning and as long as the law was made accordingly there could be no
' change made unless it be made by vote of the town .meeting.
Mr. Lundergan was informed that nothing could be done unless the
matter was brought up in town meeting for changing the by-law.
Mr. Emery brought the natter of bringing Forest Street Extension
before the voters again so that steps could be made toward. laying out
the street.
He left prints of the cost of work along the road and urged that
the Board make an effort to bring the matter to a head.
James A. Guthrie, C. J. Hendrick and Edgar W. Harrod, represent-
ing a group of citizens in the East Village came before the Board
relative to the status of the jitneys.
Mr. Drew, President of the Middlesex & Boston St. Railway Co.,
happened to be present and gave the gentlemen the information they
desired. They remained before the Board for some time entering into
a discussion with the railroad officials.
They were informed by the Board that the regulations could be
seen by any of them st any time and that the Middlesex & Boston
Would be required to do certain work before a license would be
guaranteed to them.
Permission was granted to the British jiaval & Military Veterans
AssociAtion of Maas. to parade in Lexington on Sunday, May 25th, and
to hold memorial services on the Lexington Green and decorate the
monument,
The local military organizations were notified that they would be
expected to meet this organization.

Mr. Drew, of the Middlesex & Boston St. Rwy Co. was presented with '--
a copy of the regulations adopted by the Board in regard to the "=9
operation of jitneys in the town.
A discussion in regard to the requirements of the regulations and '
the agreamert Mr. Drew entered into in regard to -the removal of the
tracks was held.
Mr. Stone stated that he would draw up the necessary license to
be granted to the Middlesex & Boston upon presentation of the neves-
Bary bonds,
The Supt, of Public Works stated that the New England Telephone &
Telegraph Co. wanted permission to open Bedford Street at the Lexing-
ton Lumber Company for the purpose of installing an underground conduit.
The Board agreed with Mr. Scamman that no permit should be given
to tear up this street as it was agreed upon that no excavations should
be made there for five years,
Permission was granted to Mrs. Lorna McLean Milne to use the
Buckman Tavern grounds for a flower show on Saturday next,
Common Victuallers License was granted to Eva Lassof of 27 Sylvia
Street.
