MUTING, FEBRUARY 12, 1924. ,
A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held in
the Selectmen's Rooms Town Hall, Lexington, on Tuesdays Feb. 12,
1924 at 8:00 P. li. The following members of the Board were pre-
sent; namely: Messrs. Scamman, Hutchinson and Burnham. The Town
Clerk and Asst Town Clerk were also present and the Town Counsel
was present the first part of the evening.
Invitation was received from James M. Curley to attend
the Washington -Lincoln Memorial Exercises in Symphony Hall on
February 17, 1924 at 3 o'clock P. M.
Bill of $10 from Dr. Fred S. Piper for damage to his
car on account of limb hanging over the street on East Street
was approved by the Board.
The Board believed that Dr. Piper should recover for the
damage to his car owing to the fact that the accident occurred
as a result of an obstruction in the highway and war no fault of
his.
Fred L. Lord was drawn as a Juror in the Civil Session.
Hearing was held on the application of George H. Peterson, '
41 daltham St, Lexington, for permission to erect and maintain a
garage was held. No one appeared to object and the Board voted
to grant the license.
Notice wan received from the Mayor of Medford in which they
informed the Board that H. LaRue Brown was employed as attorney
by the allied towns and cities in fighting for a reduction in train
rates.
Francis J. Toys and William J. Marshall came before the
Board with the request that an article be inverted in the Warrant
for the annual town meeting relative to the collection of garbage.
The Town �,ouneel drew an article.
The condi t f on of Clara Bane, inmate of the Almshouse, -N-ae
condidered. Miss Dan's Pieter who liver in New Jersey wanted to
take Clara to live with her. Upon investigation it was found that
another sister claimed the should be reetrained. The Board, there-
fore, requested Dr. Fred S. Piper and Dr. Henry C. Valentine to
examine Mies mane and report as to whether or not she should be
restrained. The Board also decided to consult her relatives$
to whether or not they could pay something toward her board.
Matters relative to the water department were brought
before the Board by the Supt. of Public 6orke, ouch an the bill '
for work on the Hunt property. The Supt. stated that Mr. Hunt
declined to pay hie bill. The Board, therefore, instructed him
to place the bill in the hands of the Town Counsel for collection.*.
This bill was for construction of sewer IV Wallace Court,
The Supt, also inquired as to whether or not the Board
' believed Mr, Stickel should be allowed reduced ratee on the
water used by him at his greenhhumes. At the present time he
has two meters and on the water over and above a certain,amount"
on each meter he is allowed reduced rates. The Board believed
that his bill should be figured in a lump sum and not as two
meter readings.

The Board instructed the Supt, of Public Yorks, at his
suggestion, to do away with the horse on the highway department
that had become too old for good service and purchase a new one
ton truck.
The Supt. discussed with the Board a few other items in
regard to his department# nau,ely putting in a 30 inch culvert
on the lower end of Vine Brook at Grant Street and an application.
for street lights on Burlington Street.
