HomeMy WebLinkAbout1923-12-11 113 11 , 1923 . A regular meeting of the board of selectmen was held in the Selectraen'e Room, Town Hall , Le/ington, on Tuesday , December 11 , 1923 . at 8 P . i:. The follow?ng members of the Board were prevent , namely Lepers . ecamman, Blake , Hutchineon, Burnham and Moulton, the Town 'lerk , Ae t Town Llerk and the Town Counsel were also prevent. Mr . Frederick L. Emery came before the Board to register hie views in regard to the sign at the corner of Lovell and Maple Streete . Mr. emery felt that thin rign war entirely an advertising rign and vhould not be allowed on towr, property. He nuggented that the town place one of the iron rigne there if they felt they should have a sign at thin point. The Board informed ier. Jemery that they would take the matter under consideration. James Lamproe of 24 eater St, daltham, came before the Board relative to obtaining the nignaturen of the Board in approval of hin having a licenee to peddle fruit and vegetables in Lexington. Upon request of the School Committee and American Legion for ' the uee of the hall for banket ball the Board reconei1ered the matter and decided to allow them the use of the hall after five o' clock so that there would be no danger of the plaster falling upon the employees of the Pall in office houre . Mr. yrederick L. Emery entered a verbal complaint against the manner in which the Smith Bell Farm was carried on, and argued that they Should not have a common Yictualler' n Licenre . 4.r .Emery was informed that . i r he would make a written complairt .the Board would then give a hearing and if cause iv shown they can then revoke the licence . .,[r. euguet Young of Laconia Street came before the Board and vhowed a form cent him by the federal Inspector and asked that he be given a permit to uee hie building an a Slaughter House . The Board voted to grant l.r. Young thin permit , for the sum of $25 . Common victualler' n Licence was granted to Samuel Beattie of 454 Mann . Avenue. Request wan made by William Fleming and John J . Murphy for enow plow service oni&oreland Avenue to William Avenue and Oakland Avenue. The Board informed them that snow plow service could be granted only on vote of the town on there vtreete . The Board approved Forgery Bond to the amount of 85000 . Petition relative to w .irtiing of trains at 12 05 midnight and 5 46 .,.L1• signed by renidente of North Lexington neaded by W . E.Miller vas received by the Board. 114 The Board replied that they would take the matter up with �T the Boston : Laine RR . Uo . to Pee if anything could be done to deaden the loud whirtlee on there tralnr and wrote the Burton Sc Mine RR on the subject . Joseph Carroll of Allen Street came before the Board relative to the fence along hie father ' s property asking that the Board replace fence that had been broken down. The Board informed him that they would look into the matter . The Planning Board extended an invitation to the Board of Selectmen to sit with them at a hearing to be held on Friday, December 14 , in Cary hall , at which time dividing certain sections of the town into zones war to be considered. Property owners along the rections where the Board intends to estab'ish zones were notified of the hearing. Letter war received from Lierman u . Lythgoe , Jirectie n of the Division of Food and Drugs of the State , in which he in''ormed that the Board of 1,ealth would have to pay for the test of milk for G . .r . Robinson for grade A . milk inaemuchae the Board of Health is responsible financially for whatever they are required to do by law. Notice was received from 4 . L. Bazeley , otate Forester . that according to law the J•oth Department could spend $4395 .32 in sup- pressing gypsy and brown-tail moths . Letter war received from the grief of Police in which he called attention to the fact that as there war no health Officer he was doing the work of posting -'oticer of Contagious disease. The Board gave the chief the authority to do this work inas- muchar there war not Health ufficer to do the fame . In response to the letter of the Board to the Burton Elevated company as to whether or not they could be interested in the pro- position of either running busses or electric care in Lexington, a letter was received from that company stating that they were not interested in either proposition. Resolutions were received from the :set Lexington Civic Assoc- iation in regard to the applications for bur service in LexinPton. The resolutions were placed on file . Applications for the operation of busses in Lexington were received from John B. Lowell of the Concord, Baynard & Hudson Bus Line , and from . red i. Pierce of 18 nertminirter St . Hyde Park. These applicants were invited to be present at the meeting of the Board on December 18 , iar. Pitt F. grew. President of the laiddlerex k Boston St. Rwy Co . came before the Board informally to talk over matters in regard to regulations for operation of buseee in Lexington . Different phases of the situation were discussed by both parties . Phe chief topic of discussion war the replacing of streets when car tracks are removed. 115 Proposed regul.ions were presented by Lr. Hutchinson . the same having been drawn by him. Mr. Hutchinson also presented regulations that were in effect in Boston. Mr. Hutchinson stated that he had talked with the State Dept. of Public Utilities and they informed him that they would not recommend the acceptance of the regulations presented by Mr .Bayley at the hearing in the Town hall . In the meantime while the regulations are being drawn up Tyr. Hanson was requested to e t in touch with Mr. Harrison and figure up what the cost of putting tree roads back in proper cm- didion when the tracks are removed would be . The 'lerk was requested to ask the Supt. of Public .Works to replace the street sign at the corner of Forest And Clarke Streets. true record, Attest Clerk. # Board of Survey. Plane of Simonds and Harding Roads on land of the Lexington Building Trust. Bedford Street , were approved by the Board. The lotting plane abutting these streets were also approved so that the same could be registered at the Registry of Deeds.
