A rerulur meeting of the LoGrd of selectmen was held in the
Selectmen's Room,Town Hall, Leington, on Tuesday, December 11,
1923 • at 8 P. Li- 'rhe following members of the Board were prevent,
namely: hlepers. -Jca=an, Blake, Hutchinson# Burnham and Doulton;
the Town clerk, Ase't Town Slerk and the Town Counsel were also
prevent.
1.1r. Frederick L. EmFry came before the Board to register his
views in regard to the sign at the corner of Lowell and Maple
Streets. Dr. Emery felt that this sign war, entirely an advertising
Fign and should not be allowed on town property. He ruggevted that
the town place one of the iron signs there if they felt they should
have a sign at this point.
The Board informed iur. Lmery that they would take the matter
under consideration.
James Lampros of 24 Water St, Waltham, came before the Board
relative to obtaining the signatures of the Board in approval of
hi_s having a license to peddle fruit and vegetables in Lexington.
Upon request of the School Committee and American Legion for
' the use of the hall for basket ball the Board reconsidered the
matter and decided to allow them the use of the hall after five
o'clock so that there would be no danger of the plaster falling
upon the employees of the hal in office hours.
'Ir. yrederick L. :emery entered a verbal complaint against the
manner in which the Smith Bell Farm was carried on, and argued
that they should not have a common Victualler's License. lr.Emery
was informed that, iE he would :Hake a written complaint.the Board
would then give a hearing and if cause is shown they can then revoke
the license.
Dr. Auguvt Young of Laconia Street came before the Board and
showed a form vent him by the rederal Tnepector and asked that he
be given a permit to uee hie building as a Slaughter House,
The Board voted to grant fir. Young this permit, for the sum of $25.
Common Victualler's License was granted to Samuel Beattie of
454 Mass. avenue.
Request war made by dilliam �. Fleming and John J. durphy for snow
plow service on foreland Avenue to +oilliam avenue and Oakland Avenue.
The Board informed them that snow plow service could be granted
only on vote of the town on theve streets.
' The Bowrd approved Forgery Bond to the amount of $5000.
Petition relative to wvdrtiing of trains at 12:05 midnight and
5:46 :. signed by residents of North Lexington headed by W. E.Diller
was received by the Board.

The Board replied that they would take the matter up with 071
the Boston & Llaine RR. Co. to see if anything could be done to
deaden the loud whistles on there trains and wrote the Borton 3c '
Mine RR on the subject.
Joseph Carroll of Hllen Street came before the Board relative
to the fence along hie father's property asking that the Board
replace fence that had been broken down.
The Board informed him that they would look into the matter.
The Planning board extended an invitation to the Board of
Selectmen to sit with them at a hearing to be held on Friday,
December 14, in Cary hall, at which time dividing certain sections
of the town into zonee war. to be considered. Property owners along
the sections where the Board intends to establish zones were notified
of the hearing.
Letter was received from Herman C. Lythgoe, Lirectiam of the
Division of Food and Drugs of the State, in which he informed that
the Board of r-ealth would have to pay for the test of milk for
G. W. Robinson for Grade A. milk inaemuchae the Board of health
is responsible financially for whatever they are required to do by
law.
Notice was received from 4. :. L. Bazeley, State Forester, that
according to law the A•oth Department could spend $4395.32 in sup-
pressing gypsy and brown -tail moths.
Letter war received from the chief of Police in which he

called attention to the fact that as there was no health Officer
he was doing the work of porting Notices of Contagious diseare.
The Board gave the chief the authority to do tide work inas-
muchar there war not Health Officer to do the came.
In response to the letter of the Board to the Borton Elevated
Company as to whether or not they could be interested in the pro-
position of either running busses or electric care in Lexington,
a letter was received from that company stating that they were
not interested in tither proposition.
Resolutions were received from the -.ant Lexington Civic Aecoc-
iation in regard to the applications for bur service in Lexincton.
The resolutions were placed on file.
Applications for the operation of busses in Lexington were
received from John B. Lovell of the Concord, Baynard & Hudson Bus
Line, and from hied W. Pierce of 18 Nertminister St. Hyde Park.
These applicants sere invited to be present at the meeting of
the Board on December 18,
Lr. Pitt F. grew, President of the �aiddleeex � Boston St. Rwy
Co. came before the Board informally to talk over matters in
regard to regulations for operation of bueece in Lexington. '
Different phases of the situation were discussed by both
parties. The chief topic of discussion war the replacing of
streets when car tracks are removed.

Proposed regulations were presented by kr. Hutchinson .
the saTae having been drawn by him.
Mr. Hutchinson also presented regulations that were in
effect in Boston.
Mr. Hutchinson stated that he had talked with the State Dept.
of Public Utilities and they informed him that they would not
recommend the acceptance of the regulations prevented by Mr.Bayley
at the hearing in the Town Pall.
In the meantime while the regulations are being drawn up
kr. Hanson was requested to Ret in touch with Mr. Harrison and
figure up what the coot of putting the roads back in proper c-)n-
didion when the tracks are removed would be.
The clerk was requevted to ask the Supt. of Public -.'Yorke to
replace the street sign at the corner of Foreet And Clarke Streets.
