Hearing war called ae advertised in the Lexington Minute-
man and Lexington Times at 2 P . M. upon the petition of the
Middlesex & Boston St. Rwy Lompany for a license to operate motor
vehicles upon public ways in the Town of Lexington for the carrying
of paeeengere for hire .
Mr. grew told hie story to the meeting, which war eubetantially
in accordance with what he had told the selectmen at their meeting
November 13 , 1923 .
Mr . Drew gave figurer showing the condition of the companiee '
finances , and had the books of the company ready to show to anyone
d4eiring to see them. He explained that the Middlesex 4c Boston
intended to stop all car service on January let , anyway , whether
they were given the privilege of running busses or not. He told
the people that they had been losing money on this line and cou]d
not afford to keep same any longer.
Mr. Drew was asked questions by some of the citizens in
regard to the service and the proposed bme service .
Mr. Bayley argued with Ur . Lirew in regard to certain phaser
of the situation. Mr. Bayley then read some long regulations which
he felt the Board of Selectmen should pass before a permit is
granted to the Middlesex & Boston. he also suggested that there
may be other companies interested in the proposition of running
bueeee in the town and for that reason the Board would not necess-
arily have to grant permission to the Middlesex r Boston 3t. Rwy
Co .
After considerable discussion Mrs. Clarence E. Sprague moved
that a vote of confidence be given to the Board of selectmen in
their judgment.
