THE LEXINGTON YOUTH COMP'ISSION
April 10, 1975
P RESENT: Suzanne Abkowitz, Chris Anderson, Verna Frasca, Doug
Gallager, Jeff Hanson, Jeanne Hathaway, Myron Miller, Steve Moore,
Matt Powers, Madelyn Quinlan, Mary Rockwood
The first half of the meeting took place in the Board of
Selectmen' s meeting room, where the Board discussed the rock
concert. The Board voted 3 to 2 in favor of the concert, but
they had many reservations of which they wished the Youth Commis-
sion to be aware. Protection and the prevention of trouble is
the biggest problem in regard to the concert. The Selectmen recom-
mended that the concert be limited be- lfmited only to Lexington
youth, that all tickets be sold in advance, that advertisement for
the concert be limited to the Minuteman and posters around the
schools, and that the concert come to an end no later than 10:30 P. M.
The Board was not in favor of Using the Globe SC.curity company
because they have no legal power to control crowds. After the
Board approved the concert, Mr Kenney asked Police Chief Corr to
provide the necessary police protection at the concert A stipu-
lation was also made that if there is any violence or vandalism
during the Bicentennial weekend which might be carried over to the
concert, Chief Corr will have the power to cancel it„
After the meeting with the Selectmen, the Youth Commission
continued to plan the ,concert. The concert will be from 7 30 to
10 00, but the doors will close at 8 :15 and no one will be admitted
after this time. Once a person leaves he will not be allowed back
inside The balcony will not be used in order to keep everyone in
the same place, thus there will only be 800 seats Sue Abkowitz
designed the ticket and Steve Moore will 'f'rint them. The cost of
admission will be $1. 50. The Junior Class will run the concession
stand. Tickets will be sold at the high school the week before
the concert There will be a meeting at Chris Anderson' s, 39
sherburne Rd at 4 30 on Sunday, April 13 The tickets will be
ready so we can make up a selling schedule, and we will also be
making posters
The soccer game is all set. Sign up sheets are in the main
office at LHs Matt will get the check from the LBC (S80) fot the
Lighter Than Air Society, and also the checks for the soccer refs
There are 16 acts signed up for the talent show; most of the
acts are coming from the elementary schools The show will be
free and all we need now is publicity.
The next Youth Commission meeting will be on Tuesday, Apttl
15, 1975 at 7 15 in G15.
