March 13, 1975
PRESENT: Chris Anderson, Alfred Busa, Verna Frasca, Paul Goldmuntz,
Jeanne Hathaway, Myron Miller, Steve Moore, Steve Politi, Matt
Powers, Madalyn Quinlan, MARY ROCKWOOD, Dr. Gerald Stechler. Non-
member Phil Banios.
Meeting started at 7:30.
The Board of Selectmen has offered the Youth Commission a final
sum of {¢480 for the printing and publishing of the Youth Directory.
However this allotment is not sufficient to cover the cost of print-
ing the Directory in any form if we want to print several thou-
sand copies It was decided that a letter will be written to the
Board of Selectmen •stating that the budget figure is unsatisfact-
ory, and we will be back with a request next year. Mr Busa ex-
plained that the money was not alloted for the booklet this year
because of a lack of communications between the Commission and the
selectmen as to exact figures But the chances are good that the
money will be allotted next year if the amount can be justified
Dr Stechler proposed that the commission prepare the ground work
for the booklet in the spring after April, and this was agreed
upon by the commission.
The essay contest has been announced in the Minuteman four
times as of March 13th. Letters have been sent to all school
principals and to the English teachers at the high school and
junior highs. Nine judges have been selected. Although the con-
test was publicized in the paper, it seems that many students
are unaware of it Phil Banios is willing to be the commission' s
PR man as far as publicizing the contest, by making posters and
writing articles for school and town newspapers
The soccer games between the Lexington and Concord teams will
begin at nine o'clock with the girls' soccer game, followed by the
boys' game at ten. Hopefully, the LHS and the Freedom, Penn. bands
will perform during half time Both teams will be playing on the
high school football field, and we will need to get uniforms and
referees
The GYBSO concert is definite for the afternoon of the 21st.
The LHS auditorium has been reserved for it. The cost of the
concert will be at the most •$1,000, but the Bicentennial Corp
would like the concert to be free. Nevertheless, tickets will
probably have to be distributed in order to control crowds
Clarke auditorium is reserved from 10-1 for the talent show
Each school may send two acts to perform in the show, and the
deadline for entries is April 1. This show will also be free
Hopefully the Youth Dinner will be at the Regional Vocational
School on Marret Road in Lexington. Students at the school would
cook the meal, thus reducing the costs Entertainment for the
dinner will be folk music, chamber music and other small groups
If the dinner is going to be at the Vocational school, we will
have a student or teacher representative from the school come to
one of the Youth Comm meetings
The rock concert at night will either be by Sessions -- a high
school group, or a group that plays at the Grogery in Allston.
It will cost about 1200 and there will be a charge for both the
dinner and the evening concert
Tickets for the dinner, the concerts and the talent show
will be designed at printed by students at the Regional Vocational
School
The Arts and Crafts Show will be on the Visitor' s Green,
and Mrs. Northup , an Art teacher at Diamond has agreed to super-
vise it. The show will consist of the work that is on display
at Gilchrists now for the Art awards. In case of rain, the display
will be in the high school' s main hall.
There will be an executive committee meeting on Thursday,
March 20th at 7 00 in G15 of the town office building. A budget
will be made at this meeting, so all the Youth Commission members
should report all confirmations or estimates of time, cost and
place for any events to Chris before this meeting. In case any-
one needs to be reminded the members of the executive board are
Chris Anderson, Doug Gallager, JeffHanson, Steve Moore, Steve
Politi, Mary Rockwood and Madelyn Quinlan.
The next Youth Commission meeting will be on March 27, 1975
at 7 :i5 in room G15 of the Town Office Building.
