66 'C 'z7 UEETING, JULY 109 1923. ' A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen and Public 5uorks was held in the Selectmen's boom. Town Hall,Lexington, on Tuesday, July 109 1923 at 8 P.L. The following members of the Board were present, namely besere. Scamman, flake, Burnham and Hutchinson; the Town Clerk and the Town Counsel, and Ase't Town Clerk were also present. A Warrant to Jamev lrwin, Log Officer, was signed so that he could collect all dog licences that were not paid. In place of Grace U. lerriam, George'�v. Taylor and Frank D. Peirce, resigned. Edward P. s erriam. Edward ';i . a,"V or and yri'liam F. Young were appointed to nerve on the 150th tinnivernary Committee. Upon recommendation of the Uhief of Police. Edgard Leavitt, William C. O'Leary, 'Tho is now a Reserve Officer of the Police Department, was appointed a aegular Police Officer. Common Victualler's Licenses were granted to the following: Grace Ll. L tirthur F. Smith Bedford St. Marren A. Davis Bedford St. ' George H. Fierce 'LAddle St. Application for a Common Victualler's License was received from Lloyd H. Chape to do business on LJ delle Street. No License 7'ae granted to kr. Uhase. but the Board showed inclination to grant the license if he erected a proper building in tivTi_ich to do the business. A Guide License was granted to ;::ichael Kelley to guide about the Common and other rietotical rlaces in town. In regard to the pay of Robert H. --hiteI, foreman on the High- way Department, the Board voted that lar. ohite be paid for the three day© that he was docked on account of the suepennion, as they believed that the suspension wi.�s an improper one. Town Couneel advised that the Board could pay for services if they believed the suspension was improper. "pplication war received from Lre. lda H. Letter was received from Byron C. Earle, Tax collector, in which he stated that he could not obtain any help from the ,'eater department to assiFt him in collecting water rates when he was busy trying to get his taxes in, and asking that the Board therefor waive that provision contained in their former letter which stated that if he wanted to obtain help he should obtain same from the town hall and if he could not to hire o-_:tside help at hip own experise. He could not obtain any help from the town hall and the Board therefor informed 11r. .arle that lie could get help outside and charge the same to the +'eater Dept. In regard to the Board of Survey hearing upon application of veorge R. Blinn, which was formerly held and to which the interested parties did not appear, it w«F found that Mr. hill had purchased his property under the old lay out and this did not require the fil ng of plane of the passageway or layout, Notice was received from the Lexington Gas Company in which they stated that a reduction of price of gas will be made august let, of ;;¢ per thoupand cubic feet. I n regard to the letters of the Town Counsel relative to the care of lay E. Hall vs Town of Lexington; Erneft . Martin vs ' Town cof Lexington; and Almina Munroe vs Town of Lkrxington; the Board consideredthere cases with the 'Town Counsel and decided that no formal offer would be made on the 1;ary L. hall case or the Ernest W. Martin case. In the "lmina Munroe case the board made an additional award of $100 on Hupuet 1917 making; the total award $350 and felt that this was their final award. Poet of the American Gas Accumulator Co. came before the board and presented diagrams of dangerous corners in ' Lexingtont in which he believed that a beacon light should be inetalled. 1:r. Poet was requested to go over the came with h.r. Harrison and see which two corners were the most dangerous in town, and make a trial of one of the lights or perhaps two of them if thought neceeeary, Mr. Harrison reported that he received two bide for the installation of water pipe, one from John. Palmer Co. Inc. and Anthony Rose & Son. The water pipe could be obtained from Sumner & Aznbar at a coet of $69 fob pr. ton. The Board approved of Kr. harrison'e awarding the contract to the lowest bidder, which in this care &_r. harriron informed the Board.:.ae John Palmer Co.
