A regular meeting; of the Board of -Delectmen and Public
`corks was held in the Selectmen's hoom, 'Town Fall, Lexington, on
Tuesday, June 26, 1923 at 8 F. The following members of the
Board were -repent, namely Lessrs. Scamman, Blake, Burnham and
Hutchinson; the Town Clerk and the "ss't loom clerk were also
present. Llr. Loulton and Town Counsel Stone were bsent.

a Special Police.
The re-signation of Gilliam Y. Fletcher, Police Officer
recently suspended, was accepted by the Board, the same to take
effect mune 15, as etated in r.is letter of reeigmtion.
The recommendation of Chief Leavitt that patrolman y',illiam C.
O'Leary be appointed a regular police officer, was laid over for
future consideration.
Public Carriage Licensee were granted to the following; and

Resignation from the 150th "nnivereary Committee was received
from Grace G. L:erriam. There are now three vacancies in this
committee. the filling of these vacancies will be made at the next.
meeting.
Bartlett J. harring;ton was appointed to serve upon the
Committee to Revise the Building Laws in place of Robert H. Holt,
resigned.
Notice of the Delegation of Poorer to the Board of Selectmen
under the new regulations of the Department of Public Safety in
regard to Gasoline and Garages was received.
In regard to the applic,Aion of Hopkins & Lee, 480 Lues. Ave.
for a gasoline tank, the Board decided that this was not a new
location for a tank, that it was only a repl,ce,nent and that they
need not have a hearing on same. The no.:rd therefor notified the
Chief of the Fire Lepartment of their decision in this case.
Letter wad received from Edwin B. Jorthen thanking the
Board for allowing him to have the old liblmee chaise stored in
the Old Pumping Station.
Common Victualler'e License was granted to -ies Jennie Morse
to do business on Liddle St. at the corner of iw'altham Street.

Alcohol at 480 Bass. =eve.
nnplication for a gasoline filling station at the junction
of Lincoln St. and the State Roa., was received from Jay 0. Richards.
The Board decided to give a hearing on same on July 24, at
t 15 F M.

In regard to the petition of the employees of the `doth Depart-
ment for an increase of 25� per day, the Board decided that the
appropriation "or this department ;could not warrant any increave.
The Board revised the t1ury List.in accordance with the require-
ments of the law.

installed in his house was turned over to sir. Harrison.
' Petition was received from store keepers on Massachusetts
avenue asking that traffic in front of the stores be eliminated
especially on Saturday nighte.
The Board discussed the matter and suggested a twenty
minute parking period in tont of storee'might relieve traffic. The
Board also suggested that cars parking for the whole evening be
requested to be parked below the 'Town Hall on liars. Ave. In regard
to Depot Park the Board felt that this being private property that
they had no right to direct traffic to park there.
The Board turned this petition over to the erupt. of Public
corks with the request that he talk the matter over witil the
Chief of Police and report their recommendation to the Board.
Parking on Luzzey St on the right hand ride vrae also suggeeted
as a means of relief.

requesting permission to han4 a sign over Partridge" Bakery and over
the ridevralk.
The Board referred the matter to the Supt. of Public �'orkg.
Zdivard Bunzel came before the Board vrith a complaint that
George earner, Slaughter Inspector, condemned four out of seven pigs
and would not give any reason for condemning them. He then called
the State Inspector at they -tate rouse, but was unable to get any of
them to dome out, lliw, then hired a State Veterinary, Dr. Peterson from
='altham; he came out to Bunzel's place and found nothing wrong With
the'.pigs; he called kr. Warner to come over to his place at that
time and he refused to do so. He then had to go to the expense of
buying two ton of ice to preserve the pigs Fo ..hat the State Insrector
could Pee them the next day.

It was suggested that the Building Inspector be notified when
anyone is building a place for which they expect to have a Common
•Victualler's License or a Sunday Sales License, to have such person
first apply for the permit.
The 'town Treasurer reported that the Town is being sued for
$10,000 by henry M. ..icCaffrey of Lincoln Wit.
Leonard h. "nham came before the Board in regard to the
letter of the board accepting hip resignation, and requested that
he be giver, his pay up to June 30th although the resignation took
effect June 15th, thereby giving him two weeks vacation.
The Board agreed that they would approve his bill up to
June 30th. 1923.
Charles J. henricn: and three other Liberty 1eights residents
came before the B'oLrd erith the request that the garbage in the
thickly settled districts be collected by the Town. They felt
that the houses in the rection in wl-_ich they lived are quite near
together and the time had gore by for burying their garbage in the
back yard.
They suggested th t the Town could get the garbage collected
for $8 pr. day by someone who was in the pig business.
The Chairman called their attention to the report of the Com-
mittee appointed in 1921 to consider the subject of collecting
aehes and garbage and in which the; informed the Town of the expense
which was greatly in excess of what the petitioners felt the Town
could get this done for.
The Board stated that they would be willing to put an article
in the warrant again to see if the Town would vote to collect the
garbage, and requested the Supt. of Public 6orks to make a study of
the situation and give his recommendations to the Board.
These same petitioners requested what the Board was doing about
the Cld Paint Shop at 119 lase. rive. The chairman informed them of
the status of the case.
They also complained that the enow plow on Oak Street does not
go on the eider;alk, but on the middle of the street, and asked that
this be corrected next winter.
The Supt, of Public dorke reported that he gave notice to the
Highway and Water wept. employees tha., they were granted an increase
of 5� pr. hour the same to date from Monday of this week.
ir. Burnham reported information obtained that the State Depart
went of health shoved that fumigating was being discontinued, and
that Lepartment did not advise fumigating and that they felt that
a thorough cleaning of the room the patient was in aa'ee�Eufficient.
Other towns about have also discontinued fumigatirg after contagious
diseases.
In consideration of these facie the Board voted trot to do any

more fumigating, even though the Health Regulations require it to
be done.
' Two bids were received for installing water pipe, one from
Anthony nose & Son and the other from John E. Palmer.
In this connection the Supt. of Public +dorke reported that
he expected that Hanecomb Bros, were to bid and requested that
the bids be left wit:7t him to figure up and to award to the lowest
bidder.
Notice of accident on Lowell St. and letter from tKohn L.G.
Glynn, Counsellor at Law, Kimball Bldg, Boston, in regard to same
were sent to the gown Counsel for his attention.
Letter was received from the Sunt. of Streets, followed up
by a letter from the erupt. of Public �iorks, recommending the pur-
chase of a one ton automobile truck for the cater Department to
take place of the horse and wagon now used.
The Board approved the recommendation.
letter was received from the erupt. of Public Works recommend-
ing that Patrolman Russell be appointed health Officer and that he
be allowed $5 pr. week additional salary for his services, end that
the sum for the wm rk npt exceed $200.
The Board therefor appointed Patrolman John C. Russell as
Tiealth _nspector, and that the term of appointment be for 60 days
so that the arrangement could be tried out.
' Letter was received from the Supt. of Public Jorks in regard
to relaying sidewalk on Bedford otreet along the property of Leroy S
Brown. �r. Brown desired to have granolithic sidewalk on Elm t-ve.
and on Bedford St. instead of relaying the tar sidewalk. For this
work Lr. Brolvn would contribute $500, and the cost of came would be
$1006.06.
It was left with ":r. Harrison to make whatever arrangement
necessary keeping in mind the appropriation for this work..
Another letter was received from the Supt. of Public dorks
in regard to the Franchise of the 'Liddleeex c Boston St. R.wy Co.
L.nd in which he felt that they were not living up to their franchise.
He stated that he was going to take the matter up with the
Vompany. .
Lir. .Blake read a letter received from Frederick L. emery,
in which he complained of the condition of !,auzzey St. extension.
=.Lr. Blake referred the matter to lir. Harrison.
Permission was given to the Supt, of Public ddorks to take
his two weeke vacation one week in July and one in August.
lermissior was given to the -;.salt Clers to take her vacation
the last two weeks in august.
' In connection with the transportation of garbage it was
suggested that carts hauling garbage be instructed to use the
back roads instead of going through the centre of the town.
