MEETING, It &Y 15 , 1923.
rL special meeting of the Board of Selectmen and Public Yorke
was held in the Selectmen's Hoom, Town hall. Lexington, on 'Tuesday,
P.i..ay 159 1923 at 2:00 Fe IL. The following members of the Board
were present, namely,;Leesre. Scamman, Make, Burnham and Moulton.
The Town Clerk, the Ass t Town clerk and the Town.�;ouneel were also
present.
Mr. Charles F. Pierce, Town �►ecountant, came before the
Board as he questioned the authority of the Supt. of Public tworke
to give him orders relative to his office hours in the :Pawn Hall.
The matter was laid over until Thursday evening when another
special meeting was to be held.
Board of Survey hearing, advertised for two successive weeks
in the Lexington Minute -man, was declared open. There were present,
Kr. Ervin R. Dix, 2386 11ase. 'Ave. Cambridge, kr. Hamilton,
Yir. F. P. Cutter, Engineer for Mr. Dix, and ldr. 'Theodore A„ Cuetance.
Lr.'jl;illiam H. Ballard, Chairman of the Planning Board, was also
present.
Plan of the proposed lay out was presented. The width of the
lots proposed was 50 feet and depth 100 to 150 feet. The width
of all streets was fort; feet with the exception of the entrance
leading from the railroad"track to No. Hancock St. opposite the
entrance of the street to the Lexirg ton Building 'Trust.
The following sketch shows the general lay out.

Town F•ngineer, J. Henry Duffy, objected to the section of "Iri
the street outlined, believing th:t two streets make the lots
too shallow. ,
Lr. William, h. Ballard stated that he ::ad not been upon the
land as yet, but that he would view the situation Irith
kr. Cutter.
The Engineers were requested to get together and arrange a
definite plan agreeable to both, and the Board mould take the
matter up again on Tuesday evening next.
The hearing adjourned at 6:55 P. 1.
August Young and limos Holman came before the Board in an
effort to secure their Slaughter Licenses. In view of the fact
that only 10;650 was appropriated by the town for daughter
Inspection, and formerly two inspectors were employed by the
town at a salary of $600 each year, it was pointed out to the
applicant that the Board would have to find some way in which
to allow more than one slaughterer a license, if tzey deem it
necessary to do no.
In order to talk this matter over a meeting wan suggested
for Thureday evening, at which the •daughter Inspectors and
Slaughterere were invited to attend.
John B. Powell as Manager of the Stanley hill Poet Baseball
team, came before the Board to see whether or not the Legion
could obtain the Ball Grounds for Sunday Baseball beginning

he explained that no admiseion was to be charged to the '
games, and that if any other organization wanted the field,
they would be willing to give up the grounds upon two week's
notice.
The Board voted to grant the use of the Parker Fl.eld to
the American Legion, for their games on Sunday during the
season, with the understanding that they would give same up
upon two weeks notice.
Notice was received of the resignation of Harold C. Reimer
from the Police Department.
The -Board voted to accept the resignation.
Letter was received from the Chief of Police in which he
gave report of work done from February 10th to April 30th.
The report was placed on file.
Letter was received from the Chief of Police in which he
stated that James lrwin, patrolman, was desirous of being
pensioned off as his rheumatism, was bothering him. Mr. Irwin
has not served in the department long enough to receive a
pension, but the 'Town Counsel stated that he would look into
the law to see what could be done.
No license was granted to lire. h. iI. Patch to do business
as a Common Victualler at 237 Laos. Avenue.
The Lexington Gas Company was granted permit to excavate;
on Shirley Jt. at r 10, 'Tewksbury St. at 6 and 7, and Ourve St.
at #26.
Letter was received from the Boston 3 !Laine RR. Co. in

which permission was granted to the Selectmen to have signs,
directing; traffic in at the hunt Mock to the Railroad station,
and out at the boutelle block, so called.
Metter was received from the Supt. of Public 'yrorks in
which he suggested that some person be selected to investigate
caves of the board of Health instead of appointing a Doctor.
Town counsel informed the Board that it was a health
inspector that they should appoint.
The matter was laid on the table with the request that
Mr. Harrison get more details, as to whom he had in mind and
the compensation, also the amount of money in the appropriation.
Letter wan also received from the Supt. of Fublic 'Jorks
in which he stated that he had instructed lir. Bain to continue
as Lilk lnnpector as he understood that kr. +'+`alley had not
qualified for the office.
Letter was received from the Supt. of Public +corks in
which he requested that the Town ,accountant be requested to
notify the heads of deps.rtmente of Whapter 440 Section 31 of
the General yaws, which is the Municipal Finance Act. This
calls attention to the expenditure in excess of the Appropri-
ation.
The Board requested the accountant to send out the notices.
Voted to adjourn. Adjourned at 10:20 F. M.
