MINUTES; of the meeting of September 11, 1975 were approved.
CORRESi'ONDFNCE Chmn. Barnes noted receipt of a bill from the FitchTmerg
& Leominster §t.'eet R.R. Co. in the amount of $265.50 for 3 buses used
. to transport the Fitchburg High School Band on April 19, 1975. The
bill was dated July; the envelope was postmarked July 9, 1975. Since
all Patriot's Day bills for 1975 were handled by the Bicentennial Com-
mittee, Mrs. Litchfield will forward this one to Chinn. Cole for proper
action TCC members commented that, although this was a Fitchburg
bill apparently sent late this year as in 1974, a different bus com-
pany is involved.
A letter regarding availability for parade participation by the
1st Corps of Cadets (Drum & Bugle) of Somerville, Mass. was distributed.
Chmn. Barnes read Town Manager O'Connell' s letter dated 8/20/75
regarding the handling of notification and calling of executive ses-
sions 'hich was sent to all Town Boards & Agency Chmn, The Chairman
also remarked that it would be most unusual for TCC business to cover
any area which could properly be included in an executive session.
VETERANS DAY Commander Gerald. Garrity, of Lexington Post #3007.,
Veterans of Foreign tears, joined the Committee in a discussion of plans
for the day. He will return on October 2 with suggestions for speaker
of the day; in addition, he will arrange a flag detail, appoint
parade staff, and contact other veterans organizations regarding aossible
participation. The TCC asked Commander Garrity to serve as Chief Mar-
shal of the parade and he agreed to do so. Chmn. Barnes noted the
discussion of Sept. 11 and commented that, since there was no longer
either a community-wide Thanksgiving Service or a formal observance
of UN Day, he would be most reluctant to curtail the present Veterans
Day observance to any extent other than that dictated by weather.
Mrs. Litchfield will write to the National Guard and contact
Hanscom Field regarding a marching unit. The Committee suggested that
either the minister of Pilgrim Church or of Pollen Church(both new to
Lexington) might be invited to give both Invocation and Benediction.
PATRIOTS DAY There was general discussion of the 1976 plans; no de-
cisions here made However, Mrs. Mitchell will contact Mr. Lord at
the High School to ask him to confer with the president of the Class
of 1976 regarding the Youth Parade. Mrs . Litchfield said that she
had been called by a representative of the Chamber of Commerce staff
at the Visitor' s center - questions regarding both parade and reenactment
timing have come in. The TCC agreed that last years times would be used
unless there is a particular reason for change.
July 4, 1976 If the TCC is assigned any responsibility in this area,
plans for proper budgeting, discussion, and Town Meeting action must 1h
be made As this does not fall within the current fiscal year, our e-
present $5500 budget is not involved. Both 1976 Patriot' s Day and Q0
July 4 may have large spectator crowds. coil.
