Sept. 11, 1975
PRESENT; Mr. Brenchick (Presiding) , Mrs Litchfield, Mrs.
McGonagle, Mrs. Mitchell, Mr. Turner, Mr.Fitzgerald
Correspondences Mrs. Litchfield noted a letter from Larry D.
Loop, Band Director, of John Ehret High School, Marrero, La. ,
regarding participation in the 1976 Patriot' s Day parade. The
group is planning to come. at TCC invitation, at no cost to
the Town, and has begun to plan. for their trip here,
Veterans Deys The Committee began to plan for a repetition
of the traditional Veterans Day ceremonies, having first
addressed the questions of. whether. in light of the very
small numbers of organized veterans now actively involved,
a parade should continue to be included, either this year
or in years to come; and, in addition, whether this ;ar-
ticular question regarding both Veterans Day and Memorial
Day should be discussed with the Selectmen, either now or
at some future date within the coming year, It was agreed
that a re-examination of past practice was probably needed.
In planning for the 1975 observance of Veterans Day,
Mrs. Litchfield will contact the Girl Scouts, the 4H Clubs,
the 4 H horse Club, and Mr, Gillespie of the LHS band. Mrs.
Mitchell will contact the Girl Scout Drum Corps, the Camp-
fire Girls, the Boy Scouts, and the Lexington Minute Men.
The committee will wait for comments by Chmn. Barnes
and Vice-Chmn.Gaughan regarding Veterans groups before
proceeding further.
Several suggestions were made for speaker at the
ceremonies but no final decision was reached. It was
noted, however, that the VFW might wish to furnish a
speaker.
Patriots Day. . Committee members reviewed many of the suc-
cessful aspects of last year' s events and discussed which
of these might be considered as possibilities to be in-
cluded in future plans within a much more limited budget.
The Committee feels that organization of even a much smaller
g;ooutz of marching units would be helped immeasurably if
communications equipment could again be used.
Other Business Mrs. Mitchell has brought all old records C
which had been stored by Mrs. Reed back to the Committee
