HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975-02-13-TCC-min.pdf �V Y 1 'g2d-\ TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE February 130 1975 Next meeting - February 20 1975 at 7 30 pm at the Visitors Center PRESENT Chum Barnes, Ma Gaughan Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs. Mitchell, Mr Brenchick, Mr. Flynn Chief Marshal Broderick, Mr. George Cooper (representing The Boy 4 •gats) MINUTES of February 6, 1975 were approved CUUU.ES2ONDBNCE Mrs. Litchfield reported that she had been contacted by Gen Wilkinson of Alleppo Temple and had received ., 'letter from the Connecticut Yanks Bristol Drum Corps of Bristol, Conn. regarding parade participation Both inquiries will be handled by the Chief Marshal. A letter from the Lexington Girl. Scouts regarding an aiternaee site for their Drum Ceremony in case of inclement weather following the re- dedication ceremony will he referred to the LBC and the Rededication buf,committee of the LUC Chmn, Barnes read a letter from the Carlisle Colonial Minute Men stating that they plan to arrive in Lexington by bus and. £equosting the best routes and parking directions This letter -was also referred to Chief Marshal Broderick, who commented that he still had no definite information from the Lexin, ton Minute Men as to units which should be expected. Mr Brenchick read a letter from the Pearl Harbour Survivors As- sociation regarding their plans to participate in the afternoon parade. They requested that a single automobile might be allowed to accompany' their float and marchers in order that a very aged individual and his wife, might participate in the parade. In the discussion which followed the TCC noted that it had been the past custom to allow veterans groups to provide transportation for members unable to march, therefore the committee agreed that there would be no objection. to this request,. It was , hotever, agreed that this float would not be eligible to enter the float-competition, as this is hot primarily a Lexington organization. FLOATS Mr Brenchick said that /he now has 15 float entries including that from the Pearl HSN and anticipates 4 er 5 more. All potential entries have been sent letters regarding the float clinic, In response to a question from 'Chmr., Barnes, M; Brenchick said that h.e had no entry from the Pioneer Girls at Grace Chapel 4m PARADE PARTICIPANTS oft Mr. Brenchick reported that the group of unicycle riders *ould be o supervised by Mrs. Gloria Colbert of Tewksbury Street; her son seems tom be a most competent rider and, as costume designer and coordinator for 4 the annual Hayden Ice Show, Mrs Colbert is most qualified to help vhe t‘ young .people Chief Marshal Broderick reported that he had had a letter from former :selectman Phil Clark who said that he has a colonial drum which was used iii both the 1875 and 1925 parades he would be willing to donate this drum to the Lexisurton Historical Society on the condli.t nn that it e T Town Celebrations Committee -- February 13, 1975 Page 2 he used again in 1975. It was agreed that Mr. Maxner, who has portrayed the grandfather in the Spirit of '76, would be contacted Mr. Brenchick noted that Mr. Maxner had asked if the TCC would feel it aepropriate to have the characters of the Spirit be portrayed in the morning parade by 3 young people. There was enthusiastic approval of this idea given by the committee. Mrs. Mitchell has cclhtacted Mr. Gabriel regarding wigs; he was unable to assist and., in fact, refers his hair styling customers to nearby department stores for wig services. Mr. Brenchick said that only the bald hated wig for the grandfather was the real problem the fifer and drummer for the afternoon parade will 'need neither wigs nor beard MARCHING UNITS Chief Marshal Broderick reported 'letters of inquiry from distant colonial units; he has extended their application deadline to March 1. The committee voted to invite the following units Ord Connecticut Regiment of Militia (no fee) Glovers MBL Militia of Marblehead (no fee) 1st New York Regiment of Continental Line (no fee) Stuart Highlanders of Bedford ($250) The committee voted not to invite the following since fees were too high Pembroke Imperials Provincetown Fire Department Ha4d Pumpers, St Francis Xavier of Weymouth. In addition, it was agreed that the Chief Marshal should check to see whether St. Theresa°s Junior andSenior Drill Teams of Malden, long time parade participants, had been contacted to appear at the fee of $225 (the 1974 fee) . POST PARADE RECEPTION Mr Gaughan asked that Mrs Litchfield write to the Minute Man School saying that the TCC no longer wished to reserve the facilities for April 19. He noted, however, that in his inquiries regarding caterers which might wish to provide food for the reception, he had made inquiries regarding possible preparation by culinary arts students. He will investigate further - REVIEWING STAND Mr. Flynn reported that Mr. Tarlin will order the flat- bed trailers, and eublic address system, on TCC behalf from Hanscom Field. Mr. Tarlin has informed Mr. Flynn that press stand arrangements will be handled by Mrs. Scigliano; Chmn. Barnes noted that the TCC would want to know the location(s) planned Mr. Flynn has reserved the 8 foot speaker's stand from the DPW for TCC use; Chmn. Barnes asked that the larger one be reserved also, with the understanding that both stands would probably have to be moved to the various ceremonial sites during the day. According to Mr Flynn, chairs will rent at 350 apiece from. Peterson Chair Company; all arrangements for rental, set up, and delivery will be made in writing. POST PARADE REFRESHMENTS FOR MARCHERS On behalf of Mr. Turner, Chmn. Barnes reported that the Mass Caterers would be prepared to provide 2,220 cups and cups of coffee at a price of $400; they would provide 2.,220 doughnuts at $210.
