'beaters came before the Board to see if he could obtain a license for the filling station upon which a hearing was held at a former meeting, and upon which the Board decided that public convenience and nececeity do not require. The Board informed Mr. Haters that they could not reverse their decision, and that they felt that there were already too many stations and pumps on Mase. Ave. Keil McIntosh came before the Board with plans for approval of Section 4. Farmhuret, plan drawn to the scale of 1" - 100' April, 1923, C. H. Gannett C. E. 53 State St, Boston." The Board approved the plan showing the lay out of Bridge St. Payson St, Grassland St, Valleyfield St. The plan also showed Spring St. widened to a width of 40 feet along his property. Mr. McIntosh agreed to file detail plans showing lay out of these streets. Insurance policy JW 5832 and MS 5833 covering Workmen's Compensation, Town Employees, was approved by the Board. Resignation from the office of Assessor was received from +- illiam W. Reed. Several names were suggested for the position, but the Hoard decided to leave the matter on the table. The plan of relocation of North hancock Street was dis. cussed. Sometime ago the Board petitioned the County to establish the lines of this street, suite a lot of land is taken from Pers. Abbie Fuller and also from the Henderson property. The question of damages having arisen. the Board requested Mr. Harrisoh to consult with the parties where a land taking is made, and report to the Board at an early date. Letter from the Gas Co. enclosing plan in which they inform the Board that they were obliged to make a change in their location in Curve Street. The letter was left with Mr. Harrison to reply to. It was decided to ask Mr. F. L. Emery whether he considered the Board had any right to place eignP on Mase. Ave. directing persons to use Depot Park doves, and asking his suggestion as to remedy for the situation. ' Common Victualler's Licenses were granted to Pattie E. A. Peckham, Caroline A. harrington, and Elisha W. Otis for the year ending April 30, 1924. No charge has ever been made for these licenses. The Board deemed it wine to make a charge, and it was therefor Voted, that a charge of $1,00 be made for all Common Victualler's Licenses i?eued on and after this date. 38 It was also Voted, that a charge of $2.00 be made for all Sunday Sales Licensee granted on and after this date. The decision of the Board on the discharge of Edward B. ' O'Connor was that the matter be referred back to the Superin- tendent of Public 4orks. Letter was received from Frank E. Haynes, Commander of the American Legion, in which the legion asked the Board to recon- sider their decision not to decorate the Town hall for the April 19th. celebration. The Board reconsidered the matter but voted not to decorate the hall as the appropriation for the Town Hall had not been made and there were therefor no funds for the purpose. In regard to the proposition of collecting water rates, Mr.Earle informed the Board by letter that re would be willin to accept the proposition of collecting the water rates for lj�� on the amount collected. The Board voted to allow 1r. Larle 12p on all water rates col- lected, but that any clerical assistance he was obliged to obtain over and above that obtained in the hall, he was to pay for himeelf. Notice was received from henry W. B. Cotton of Middle Street in whibh he stated "This day I have entered in the Superior Court for the County of Kiddlesex my complaint on appeal from the refusal of Assessors on March 31, 1923 to make abatement of my 1922 tag, and marked the caeefor hearing at the May term, that being the first sitting of said Court after eaid entering." This matter was turned over to the Town Counsel for his atten- tion. It was voted to grant a Public Carriage License to Patrick J. Kelley of 6 Grant Street, provided he file a satisfactory bond. Notice war received from the Department of Animal Induptry that the appointment of Chester L. Blakely to serve as Inspector of Animals of the Town was approved. Hellman of Cliffe Avenue, the Board found that the follow- ing vote was on record, "Voted. that hereafter all expense inci- dental to installing cervices in prNate streets shoull be borne by the property owner. The only item to be excepted being the corporation cock." The date of the meeting upon which this vote was passed by the 'dater & Sewer Commissioners was July 7, 1916. This item on the Hellman bill amounted only to X1,50.. kr. Boulton therefor directed a letter written to Mr. Hell- man explaining the situation and asking that he eliminate his grievance and pay the full amount of the bill. In regard to the bill of Harry A. Burgess for double time on Sunday's for removal of snow, which bill was contracted for under the regime of Pyr. - uffy as Supt. of Strea°te . the Board decided that it was proper to pay the bill for that amount, although there was no written contract to bind. The town employees were receiving double time for Sunday work and Ur. Burgess claimed his men were entitled to the same. The Board approved the bill of $135.60 of Anthony Rose & Son, which bill it was agreed to pay last year. A discussion.about cleaning up the piggeries in the town was held. fir. Stone, Town Couneel, informed the Board that he would look up the law and the Board of Health regulations in regard to same and advise the Board as to how far they could go to abolish the piggeries, or at least clean them up so that there would be no more odor. The Supt. of Public Vforks et®.ted that he would arrange a meeting with the Board and Dr. Simpson of the State Department. Letter enclosing proposed regulations governing traffic in Lexington was received from the Uhief of Police. The Board requested the advice of the Town Counsel as to the acceptance of same. The Supt, of Public -lurks called attention tothe fact that he had been requested to allow further time to persona who were ordered to enter the sewer. he was requested to look into the matter further to see the rights the Board had and report. In regard to the cases now pending the Board voted that all papers in the following cases be turned over to Mr. Stone by 1� r. Ryder: James P. Munroe, Trustees. Ernest W. luartin, hlihina & Mice Lunroe, Alice Smith, John Swenson, Charlotte Bornstein. Mr. Stone advised the Board that it was better to let 11r. Ryder continue the `Nm. ' On the Breck-Robinson ilur.eery Co. claim Mr. Stone informed the Board that they 7muld accept $5000 and to be connected with the eevc r. kr. Stone advised settling this cane, and it was therefor decided to put an article in the darrant. nil Itwas decided to hold a town meeting on May 7p 1923. Mir. Stone advised that Jar. Ryder continue in the matter of a commission on the Laple Street bi�dge. Mr. Stone reported tt-_at he was endeavoring to make a settlement of the !cUaffrey claim. He and Mr. Harrison would call upon McCaffrey for the purpose of having Mr. Harrison obtain figures as to the coat of replacing the brook and laying a tile drain and covering the same over.
